I know its too late for submissions, but might as well throw my take into the mix. Word count, not including this opener and the title, is at 292.
This is the End
I leaned against the door, letting a slow flow of electricity flow back into my plated body. The human equivalent would be the rush felt after heavy exertion. Despite the situation, I smiled to myself. Flesh was weak, while the cold iron would remain strong.
The door behind me certainly did. It seemed that the whole damned city was after me. Beyond that door would be a few hundred Cabal, maybe even a thousand. It wouldn't matter when they got through. Even so, I made sure to push back a little more on the door. The longer I survived, the longer those ungrateful sacks of meat downstairs would have to escape. I knew that they wouldn't thank me, possibly not even mourn me.
They didn't understand me, those of the City. The humans were the worst, but I was even shunned by my own kind. It wasn't me that was confusing; it was my opinion, my belief, that was intimidating. My view was simple: war is cruelty. The only rules that exist are those you impose upon yourself. I had no rules. That was why I stood while others fell.
But that wouldn't happen this time.
This was the end.
I wasn't giving my life for some grand cause or noble ideal. I was trapped. A group of Guardians was down below. If I took enough of the bastards with me, I'd give them a little more time. Chances were they'd be dead despite my best efforts. But death, at this point, was an exercise in inevitability. As they said back at the Wall, you can either sit there whining, or grab a shovel and start digging.
The display in my helmet beeped. I was at full combat capability.
Time to die.

This story is fantastic. You've made a really solid character with not a lot of words. I'd vote for you if you were in the finalists.
-
Thanks. I'm really wishing that I checked the news more often and noticed the contest when it was still possible for submissions.
-
Yeah, me too. As you've noticed, you inspired me to post something of my own. =) By the way, do you have any other writing on the net? I'd be interested in reading it.
-
Nope, sorry. This is the only story I've written in almost four years.
-
Well, let me know if that changes!
-
You should be a finalist this is a really good story. I love the fact that you made this story based off of an Exo point of view, of which I plan to play as. This is an excellent story and plot.
-
Thanks.

This is just beautiful no other words can convey the awesomeness of this story. i know how you feel except i am the reverse with short stories. short stories feel like i am handicapping myself since i have so many idea's like you but not little enough words to tell all the detail i have in my head. I hope you have success in whatever endeavors you persist in.
-
Thank you very much for the encouragement. I plan on going into engineering. However, I hope I never stop enjoying video games and writing stories.
-
I wish you HAD posted this sooner dude. This was awesome!
-
Thanks. When I was younger, I wanted to be a writer. I still do enjoy the odd story. The only problem is that I can never finish a big story. I have a lot of ideas, I just need to get around to it.
-
yeah man, I have that same problem. I've got like 7 or 8 stories going right now but I cant seem to finish ANY of them.
-
The difficult thing that I find is suppressing the techno babble. I want to tell everything about the universes I create; however, it goes into way too much detail.
-
lolz, I kind of have that problem. For me, its more like my mind loses interest then picks it back up a month later.
-
I just come up with this massively detailed universe. Then I somehow have to shove that into a format that doesn't require spending all your spare time to understand.
-
mhm but you want to do it in a way where you arent shoving down the readers throat.
-
Exactly. Finding the right balance where you give them enough information for them to fill in the blanks without forcing it to them.
-
mhm, most definitely.
