Conservatives and Liberals are always portrayed as if they're opposites of each other. Though it may seem as if they have many differences between each other, there is only one difference between the two. That difference is time.
Remember when the Patriot Act was signed into law? Liberals (and Libertarians) were strongly against this, and were told by Conservatives "If you have nothing to hide, why fear?".
Now, through leaks from Edward Snowden, we know that the NSA has secretly been spying on us and tracking our Internet activity. And who supports this? Liberals. Who opposes this? Conservatives (and Libertarians).

Daily reminder that it's not Liberal or Conservative, it's the state vs you.

You really do a fantastic job of making this group look incredibly stupid, so I suppose you're at least good at one thing, even if that's not thinking like a half-way reasonable person.

They're all liberals: classical liberals, social liberals and neo liberals. They're virtually all reactionary.

This NSA shit isn't just the work of the Obama administration. Bush was in on it too, Obama just continued and expanded on it. I won't lie though, this has crippled both my national pride and my once great respect for the president.

That moment when you remember American politics is a joke.

Slight spelling error, but it is still true.

In the UK the conservatives and liberals are in a coalition government together

poor paul, he just wanted to warn us.

liberals want to control what you do outside your house conservatives want to control what you do inside your house they both suck

So much RT-Syndrome in this thread.

Moderate FTW.

Edited by Quantum: 7/11/2013 4:47:49 AMAnd the American right wing libertarians are worse. Green Party FTW! (Even if they aren't perfect).

Not much to back up your gross over-generalizations, but I agree with the spirit of your ideas. Bipartisan thinking is largely uncritical and generally fails to acknowledge that the platforms of the major parties are simply slogans and rhetoric to try and garner the most votes/influence possible. Rational self-depreciation is an integral part of the mature self-correcting process, but the assumption is made by marketers and politicians (and it seems the vast majority of voters) that it is a weakness to be avoided at all costs.

What Liberals were against the Patriot Act? You do realize it was passed with bi-partisan support, yes?
If they have nothing to hide, why fear?
This... This is blatant ignorance. Say you were to find out that the government were doing some horrible unconstitutional crime. If you were to speak out against them, they could just pull up your Internet doings and, using tax money, publicize them in a negative light, (aka run a smear campaign,) making your credibility plunge downward. Those are just the facts. Make of them what you will. And don't act like there's nothing you've ever said on the Internet that could make you look bad.

Edited by DONKEY FÙCKER: 7/10/2013 7:52:38 PMOnly 2 members in congress oppose the NSA's activities with every other congressmen supporting it. The rest of the population hates it; both liberals and conservatives by 2/3 margin.

Edited by HM Rob: 7/10/2013 3:45:48 PMHonestly, it's less about 'time' than it is about who's in office. Both the liberals and conservatives will fight tooth and nail to defend their side, so it only makes sense that this kind of hypocrisy becomes apparent. Libertarianism FTFW

Ah, good old Libertarians.

Edited by o0MrCheesy0o: 7/10/2013 9:35:14 AMAnonymity on the internet should be wiped out, and tracking user activity should be the norm—which it pretty much is already.

I'm probably going to vote l Libertarian next election. I don't care if my candidate is from a third party, I just want to change this BS.
Both seem to be run by top-notch corporations behind the scenes. It's just one reason why the two-party preferred system is absolute crap.
Who could possibly be in charge, plotting everything from the shadows? Who I ask? Who?!

I haven't been keeping up with this Edward Snowden business. Anyone care to give me a quick summation of the events?

yella, for people to take you seriously, stop posting titles that are so decisive, but then not delivering, its like those "3 tips for a bigger dick" ads on porn sites.

Firstly, I don't think there's any actual basis to support the assertion that "liberals support state surveillance of the populace." The current administration may be using these measures, but they are measures that began during the Bush administration. This isn't a question of right or left, it's merely the very obvious observation that politicians, when given power, use it. But I certainly don't believe that a majority, or even a large minority, of people who identify themselves as 'liberal' support these measures. Secondly, if conservatives say they oppose anything that's currently being done, it's only because it's being done by the current Democrat administration, and politicians will seize any opportunity to make themselves look good and their opponents look bad. Those same conservatives are by and large the very people who supported these measures being enacted in the first place.

Guys, stop being inflammatory.
