nylon "550" Paracord?
is the stuff really more useful than regular rope or is it overly expensive gimmick rope?
also, how do you tell if it's milspec(Mil-C-5040H) or not?

It's pretty strong. My BSA troop uses it a lot. I don't know if it's worth the price, but I'm fairly certain it's stronger than regular rope.

It's basically really strong string that can magically get you out of life or death scenarios when walking in a woods, or something like that. So yeah, it's magic. Worth the price.
