Two anti-gay preachers assaulted at gay pride rally

Another victory for tolerance!
If two gay rights protesters were beat-up at a Christian rally, wouldn’t that have been front page news and banner headlines across the country?
I think people have misinterpreted me here, I should have made it more clear that the above quote was not my own and I only partially agree with it (and the source as a whole). I have no persecution complex; Christians are in the majority in the US, and yes, they are often aggressively oppressive against issues like gay rights. That said, the very moment that you say this attack would be in any way more justifiable than an equivalent attack with the roles reversed, you have debased yourself to the level of the Christian fundamentalists.

    • And yet gays get beaten all the time in Russia, but we don't hear about it.

      • I'm very much in favor of marriage equality and equal treatment of members of the LGBT community. That said, I don't think politics apply here. That guy who took his shirt off was eager for a fight, as were the women who were advancing on the preacher. It's good to know that the police arrived as quickly as they did and were able to handle the situation, and even better that the incident was clearly caught on camera.

Although, that has never been so. In yet, here we see persecution and a lack of tolerance from a people who demand tolerance.

From the News Station that reported the assault in Seattle
UPDATE: Jason Queree, the man suspected of punching the protester multiple times, has been arrested 29 times since 1995. He has been convicted or otherwise found against for nine felonies, including forgery, stolen property, unlawful firearm possession and theft, and 12 misdemeanors, including driving with a suspended license, vehicle prowl, domestic violence, assault, DUI and criminal trespass.
Always important to look at past record. This guy is a thug, and is not representative of the community as a whole.

              • About time the gay community stands up for itself. I've seriously been wondering why no one has done anything like this before now. Even the Civil Rights Movement of the 50's and 60's had the Black Panthers and Nation of Islam to use less peaceful means as a part of the struggle. The anti-gay crowd has become too bold in how and where they protest. Even the triple K would think twice about having a protest at an African American march. Yet the anti gay groups have no problem doing this. Hopefully there will be a more militant group of gay rights protestors that start policing their rallies and parades keeping these bigots away. If you think about it, to a homophobe, there would be nothing more shameful than having your ass kicked by a gay guy. Maybe the fear of that will keep them away.

                •
If two gay rights protesters were beat-up at a Christian rally, wouldn’t that have been front page news and banner headlines across the country?
Yes it would be. Why isn't the attention being applied fairly? Because the situation isn't fair. Christians are currently in power and don't suffer from oppression from the majority. In fact, they are the majority and have been doing, and still are doing, a fair bit of oppression even as we speak.

                  • Wow that sucks. Why can't people ever protest peacefully? I honestly don't see the point in the LGBT community (or any community for that matter) being violent towards someone with an opposite opinion. The 2 guys who started the fight are idiots.

                        • Oh god, the FB comments make me lol so much. In all seriousness; idc what your view on religious people being at a gay pride parade are, the fact is that the people at the parade assaulted the two preachers who did nothing but try to defend themselves. For people to say they can't be there are ridiculous, they have every right to be there, it's public property.

                          • It doesn't matter who you are or what you believe; senseless violence like this is bad. When a Christian beats up a gay, it isn't indicative that all Christians are violent. When a gay beats up a Christian, it isn't indicative that all gays are violent.

                            • What people don't seem to understand is that Christians believe homosexuality is a sin, but they certainly do not hate gays. Because everyone sins, and homosexuality is just one of those sins. Those preachers just can't stand letting what they believe to be a sin to be glorified, and just want to let everyone at the pride parade know the moral significance of what they are doing. By no means are they condemning anyone - because judging is also a sin. It's just shocking that they would be beat up for this.
