My vote goes to Ace of Spades. I know that many people will say Halo 4 but the original Ace of Spades was legendary. It was a free indie game with a similar map format to minecraft (but all blocks have the same "health" and are only separated by colour. The rifle killed with one shot to the head so people built trench systems, fortresses etc to survive and undermine the enemy. Also if you destroyed the base of anything it collapsed so digging was a key part of the game.
Then JAGEX game along and bought the title. They introduced CoD classes, rocket launchers, sniper rifles and the jetpack. These editions made trench warfare and fortresses pointless because you could simply fly over them and thus, the game was completely ruined. You can still play the Classic version but the developer is no longer aloud to update an original game.
TL;DR JAGEX bought the franchise and destroyed everything original about it, turning it into a crappy CoD clone.

Anyone who says Halo 4 is a moron. Seriously, Duke Nukem Forever still exists... That was a testament to how bad games truly can be...
-
Aliens
-
Battlefield.
-
Gears of War Judgement came along with it's over simplified stripped down non locust having codified bullshit and -blam!-ed over everyone who actually played the games in the first place.
-
Fable
-
Crash Bandicoot. Holy crap, the quality of the games have gotten progressively worse, and man, am I glad they stopped making them. The newest game are atrocious and stupidly easy.
-
I was willing to say Mass Effect as soon as I entered the thread, but as I was about to hit the "post" button my heart told me that it was wrong. In truth, there is another. Dino Crisis. Holy. F*cking. Sh1t. The drop in quality between 2 and 3 is absolutely ridiculous, and then you have that random a$$ Dino Stalker game to just take another crap on the series (though it at least didn't pull the cliche a$$ "kill the T. Rex to make it seem like the other Dinosaur is the devil reincarnated).

Edited by FoMan123: 6/30/2013 3:01:21 AMI've got to agree with a couple others in this thread and give my vote to Final Fantasy. We went from games that were cultural phenomena with every release (and I distinctly remember the box art with a quote from a critic saying that FF VII was "quite possibly the greatest game ever made," which is a sentiment I agreed with wholeheartedly at the time -- see pic above) to garbage reboots that aren't even worth a blip on the radar. Hugely disappointing, and the next installment for next gen isn't exactly getting me excited for a return to glory, either.

Final Fantasy and Sonic The Hedgehog post 2006 releases
-
Halo... Because halo is screwed without bungie
-
Medal of Honor

Halo Reach and Halo 4 destroyed what once was an epic series that couldn't be outclassed or matched. Now it's just a dull bland generic fps with twitch gimmicks and ADD gameplay like CoD.
-
-
Metal Gear.
-
Mass Effect, though in retrospect, I suppose it wasn't that amazing from the start.
-
Halo. Honestly, Reach and Halo 4 are so bad if I started to get into the amount of times and ways they were both letdowns, I'd need multiple posts.
-
Dead Rising. I hope that 3 is better than god-awful 2. Multiplayer was a mistake, Capcom!
-
Splinter Cell. The two most recent installations have rewarded a guns blazing, shoot em up kind of play style, while hurting those wanting to be stealthy. Hopefully it gets foxed with the next installment.
-
sonic and final fantasy
-
Most recent for me would have to be assassins creed 3 and possibly revelations. Seems to be leaving stealthy roots and just going into the action pirate home it's created. This could all just be fatigue of the series though considering its been one after the other for the past three years.
-
Call of Duty. Classic campaigns/ WWII shooter turned into multiplayer crap.
-
halo. Never has a franchise fallen so far from what should be an obvious win.
-
Mass Effect jfc Mass Effect 3 was an abortion.
-
Resident Evil. All it is is a full-fledged Action shooter, I'd rather play with Valentine
-
Wolfenstein.
-
Sonic the Hedgehog.
