The Acting Director of the Classification Board, Mr Donald McDonald announced today that Saints Row IV was the first computer game in Australia to be Refused Classification under the Guidelines for the Classification of Computer Games that commenced on 1 January 2013.
He's just mad because of his name.

Edited by Obsric: 6/25/2013 12:06:32 PM
In the Board’s opinion, Saints Row IV, includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context. In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards. Such depictions are prohibited by the computer games guidelines.
It's the combination of both of these two elements that the board has a problem with. Their view on the interactive medium is that: 'IF it's possible, EVERYONE will do it, ALL of the time'. They have a very narrow view on the difference between 'what's possible within the game' and 'what's normal usage within the game'. The weird thing is that the same Classification board has a much broader view of subject matter in different mediums; apparently the interactivity is the root of the 'evil'... No matter; Australians are quite used to acquiring content from other sources. Sometimes we pretend to be Americans online (or from someplace else where it hasn't been refused classification); sometimes, we just imitate sea fairing ruffians. Arrggghhh.

Edited by chicken_invader: 6/25/2013 11:23:11 AMIt's like my worst nightmare coming true... Not that I don't get to play Saints Row 4. Just that we actually finally got an adult rating system and then this shit still happens.

Edited by Mystical: 6/25/2013 10:44:17 AMSo they don't get Saints Rov IV? oh well. Sounds like they like to censor games I guess. The game devs better not remake the game because one little country can't deal with a mature title.

Poor Australian gamers. Also, Donald McDonald? Ha.
