I got a basic math book from the library to sharpen my math skillZ and I noticed I keep getting one problem wrong. Estimate using compatible numbers division 321 ÷ 19 . Now me and someone else keep getting the wrong answer but our answer is the same so I wanted to see what some other peeps would get on this. Is it us or the book? I'll tell you the answer and what we get after I get some replies. It's eating at me something this basic is causing me trouble.

320/20 is a close approximation to 321/19. Answer is 16 if that's close? Actual answer is 16.8.

318 is the closest you'll get with multiples of 19. 19*10 = 190 19*20 = 380 which is too much. 19*15 = 190 + 19*5 = 190 + 95 = 285 19*16 = 285 + 19 = 299 19*17 = 299 + 19 - 318 Which leaves a remainer of 3. Not sure if that's the method the book wants you to use, but that's how I'd rationalize it.
