Having completed my challenge I wanted to share the story, which I feel is worth reading. If you would like to help please share it as widely as you can.
This thread is a follow-up to this. Your response as a community was really positive and for that I am thankful #SeventhColumn
*** P.S. Arbitor5, an awesome guy who watched the event in person, has some T-shirts (one of which is my super-rare HFCS T-shirt). He'll be giving some away to bnetters (I'll let him explain more), so make sure that if you decide to contribute you note your username somewhere in the donation message (your unique ID, not SecondClass) Thanks :)
Edit 12th July: Seeing as any bnetters that contributed post-offer were anonymous and/or told me they were not worried about swag, and the donation page expires really soon, I feel no guilt in saying Arbitor5 can keep my HFCS tee. It is the very least he deserves, after being such a great-awesome-amazing guy!

That was very selfless of you, Tom. And you showed great dedication to the cause. But I guess it's fair that people know the whole story. In that original thread, several people mentioned relations who suffered (or could possibly suffer) from Endo. It's scary really how widespread this disease really is, considering how drastically it is undertreated. With any luck, that will change one day in the near future.

Mad Respect Bro. I can barely make it through a 300m swim.
-
Great job man. One question though. I see you can swim but can you lift?
-
I remember seeing your original thread and meaning to donate, but I put it off and the inevitable tedium of life pushed it from the forefront of my mind. Apologies. I'm glad you were able to achieve what you set out to do. I'd also like to thank you - not only for bringing a bit more good into the world, but also for raising awareness for something a majority of people don't know about, for your amazingly insightful follow up blog, and for reintroducing me to David Foster Wallace's "This is Water" speech that I had forgotten but was in dire need of remembering. I hope someday your friend can find the relief she's searching for.

That moment when you realize that this is probably a story about Tom being friend-zoned by his endometriosis ridden friend. but congradulations on swimming.
-
I really wish I had the money to donate to this. Either way awesome job Tom. Keep kicking ass.
-
Still not as unwell as the runners in the Boston Marathon.
-
o.0 I don't know what to say. That is simply astounding. Your determination is something to behold, and I don't even have a fraction of that. I can't really describe how amazing that is.

Chicken Dick?

>matathon in thread title >marathon logo in OP's avatar >thread is about an actual marathon >shit >meme arrows outside of reddit

That's amazing, congrats!
-
Great job Tom T! wish you luck, hope you raise lots of awarness.
-
That's great Tom! Hey, weren't you a ninja back in the day?
-
Your determination is exemplary and humbling. I hope to be as good a man as you one day. Bravo, Tom. Bravo.
-
That's amazing. I haven't ever met someone so committed for an event such as this. That's a LOT OF SWIMMING! Props to you man.
-
Amazing. 250 laps. Even having done a marathon and training for an ironman I can't even fathom the willpower and endurance required to do that, especially in a sickened state...
-
I got a cramp reading that blog.
-
I completely forgot you were doing this Tom. I must applaud your actions. I would never be able to do that.
-
So you decided to swim in order to raise money for a organization that is trying to help women that have their body hurt themselves. Meh I was expecting better, but I guess that isn't bad. Personally if it doesn't kill you then there are bigger things to be concerned about.
-
Dude. What you did....just wow. Anyone would be lucky to have a friend as dedicated as you. There's really nothing else I can say.
-
Inspiring, truly inspiring.

I checked the symptoms of this disease. It just seems excruciating. This really needs attention, keep it up Tom.
