Friends, we learned some very sad news this week. Iain Banks, a tremendously inspirational author for many of us at Bungie, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. His open letter about his condition was clever and courageous, just what you would expect from the man who gave us the Culture series of books and so many other wonderful stories. If you haven’t ever read a book by Banks, or if you haven’t recently re-read your favorite, might we suggest: now would be a great time. And then, if you feel inspired, why not leave a message on his guestbook? Many of us at Bungie certainly will, offering thanks for all the joy he’s given us—and hope and comfort for his days ahead.
Be Brave, Iain. Love, Bungie.
Bungie, now that Iain M. Banks has sadly passed away (9 June 2013), would it be possible, if not too late, for you to add a memorial to the man in Destiny's last city? I think he, with his customary good humour, wit and graciousness, would have gotten a kick out of this. Just an idea.

You could start by telling us his middle name. Secondly, I think a small, easter egg-type memorial for him would be good, and I certainly know that Bungie isn't afraid to hide away references to employees and other people in their games.

Isn't that what Ezio says in AC2?
-
I've never heard of him but from the way you guys are talking about him he sounds like a top gentleman. :-)

Good sir I applaud you. This is a wonderful idea that should most definitely be included in the final product. I think it would be cool to have a memorial park, sort of a place for the guardians to remember their fallen comrades, and have a statue commemorating him an his work at bungie.

I think a statue in Destiny would be a great way to honor him.
-
Maybe an Easter Egg/Tribute inside of the Cities modern or old style library. Maybe someone in there makes a comment that they're his favorite writer/author. That would be cool, I mean if the Last City has a library/records of Earth center.

Make this statue resemble him!
-
Make a Bronze Statue of him in a small park somewhere within the city. Make it a REAL Memorial Bungie.

I read this a while ago and came right to B.net to see if anybody had noticed. It is such a shame... "To Soon", you'd say. But he'll be missed. Halo, and Bungie, wouldn't have been the same if it hadn't been for this man. And so would I. So, you'd say I owe him who I am. It's a shame he passed at his age. And almost 8 days before his last book was released.

Hmm, at the very least a mention in the manual booklet or end credits. I'm all for am monument though!
