To my understanding, the Wii U is similar in capabilities to the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Why is Destiny being released for those consoles, but not the Wii U?

One word: Market. It doesn't matter if the Wii U can run the game, the fact of the matter is that Wii U is a different demographic when compared to the Xbox/Playstation. Whereas Destiny will sell large amounts on Xbox/Playstation, the same could not be said for the Wii. When that is coupled with the different layout of the Wii controller, it doesn't make sense for a business standpoint to support the Wii. I would think it more likely PC support comes around than Wii support.

I had to make an account just to dispute all the ignorance on this page. I understand the majority of the demographic in here are mostly naive teenagers so I'm not surprised. Ive been a gamer since the NES days and have purchased more then half of the home consoles to date. I have no problem admitting the Wii sucked and I'd rather play on the 360 for most games. That being said and all bias or preference aside the Wii U can definitely handle this game especially if the Xbox 360 and PS3 can. 1. The Wii U has 4x the RAM of the 360 and 8x the PS3's. The Power PC based Multi-Core CPU is more powerful core-for-core compared to next generation's x86 (read that carefully before complaining) regardless of its clock speed. The GPU is integrated into the CPU. Simply put it's better then the current gen and with a little work it'll show ascetically. 2. Nintendo has released Resident Evil, Assassins Creed and Black Ops 2 just to name a few games rated Mature with blood and violence they don't care. 3. The online infrastructure can play multi platform games flawlessly. Every feature from the other consoles is present and it lets you use their social network simultaneously. 4. The proprietary disc has the same amount of space as a Blu Ray disc and can hold 50 gb like all the other DL Blu Rays present in the PS3 and next gen consoles so they don't have to split up the discs like the Xbox 360 often does with bigger games. 5. Nintendo knows they haven't been getting much 3rd party support and have gone out of there way to help developers porting and developing games for their platform. Bottom line: The Wii U is more then capable of running this game and as many mistakes as Nintendo makes, they wouldn't have lasted in this market for decades if they weren't in tune with the customers. This game is looking like a classic and if customers want it, Nintendo will recognize it. The only reason I can see for them not releasing a Wii U version is the small install base but it's a new console and that number won't get any bigger without developers like bungie and great games like this.

You touch urself

I'm not exactly sure Rick. Maybe it's lack of sales, or the specs. But I know you wanted a better answer than "because it sucks".
-
Idk. Maybe they will get it on the console later, but I doubt it. The only reason I have one now is cuz of Mario and Zelda.
-
I think it's mainly because the Wii U is getting into online-play really for the first time, and might not be able to run a lot of destiny's online elements(seamless public events) smoothly. I like the Wii U, and think it'll do fine with it's online play, but destiny REALLY seems like it's online-focused, where most Nintendo games were mostly meant for single-player or local play. It might just be a bar too high for the Wii U to reach right now. But don't worry, Nintendo will get there someday.

Nintendo are considered the "family-friendly" company. Destiny is not their thing.
-
Don't ask stupid questions.
-
reason 1 it would suck 2) nintendo isn´t made for this kind of games pls check link
-
The truth may be that Nintendo simply does not want it and likes doing there own thing. Not only is that what they do best, but it's what makes them Nintendo. While Microsoft and Sony are a mirror of each other of a kind, Nintendo is its own genre and has its own experience. (C'mon none of you can say you don't enjoy SSB.) And if that's not the case, it may be either bungie or activision don't feel the wii u has the potential, or that they may have a release planned and are currently converting the game to work on the wii u. As I said before Nintendo have their own way of doing things so it probably will take longer to convert it to the wii u's system.
-
Honestly lets be realistic, destiny would probably crash the wii u. To much of a game for the kids console lol
-
I'm fairly certain it's the completely different networking capabilities of the Nintendo system that prevents Destiny from working to its full potential. There are vast differences between the networking protocols of Sony/Microsoft and Nintendo.
-
Install base sizesnd that is it. I'm sure if there were more then Destiny would go to Wii U.
-
Cause wii u sucks ass
-
When it comes to online games, Nintendo really can't take it.
-
Who said it wasn't going to be for the WiiU? I think it's a perfect match ;)
-
The Wii U has the graphical power of the 360/PS3! It kinda sucks..
-
The Wii u can't handle Destiny
-
Nintendo doesn't deserve Destiny. It's just not their style. You see, Nintendo's audience is 10 year olds while Bungie's audience is teenagers (and adults). We don't need any more chipmunks playing FPS games.
-
Because: French Fries taste amazing
-
Wii is gay
-
Honestly don't think the WiiU will be able to handle everything that Destiny will be bringing to the table. Don't even know how well it's gonna work on 360 or PS3
-
The install bases of ps3 and 360 are both 70 million+ . The wii u is a fraction of that currently. It prolly doesnt make economic sense to invest in developing a wii i version for that small of a potential consumer base. Maybe game 2 will get a wii u version if the wii u recovers and takes off. Only time will tell.
-
Historically the online integration on Nintendo consoles has been poor. I haven't heard about the wii u's online capabilities, but that's my guess.
-
I'm actually thinking about buying a WiiU once Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, that one new Mario game, Wind Waker HD, A Link Between Worlds, etc all come out. Come at me haters but all those games seem like they will be good.
-
Cuz wii u sucks. I'm just kidding I like Nintendo( but not as much as Xbox) but I really only like Zelda and the old Mario's... :)
