  • Huh, interesting. While I always approve of schools taking more efforts to stop bullying I am not sure how well this would work, like the police officer said it can't just be a blanket ticket, but something that is given depending on the situation.

  • Kind of funny. Maybe it will force parents to, you know, be parents.

    • A step in the right direction. Most schools don't do a thing about bullying.

    • Eh.. Not sure how much I agree with this. On the one hand, it's a good idea to try to prevent it where it is possible, on the other, this doesn't exactly line up with my ideals. I think it depends on the age, really. Elementary is harder to plan for, because the child is at such a young age, the bullying could range from something wrong with the parents to something wrong with the kid, to environmental factors, to social issues, and implementing a static response to such a diverse list of causation seems to be more of an effort to pacify concerned parent than it does a legitimate step towards actually trying to fix the problem. Middle School and up (Grades 6-12) I'd guess would be more about impacting the individual who is bullying, instead of hoping somebody else straightens them out. Harsher punishments for bullying is certainly the right way, but even if 100% of bullying stemmed from the home, it makes more sense to guide the child in the right direction than it does to try to make the parents suddenly stop being -blam!- ups. More councilors, more 1 on 1 time, more opportunities, and a focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment will lend much more to helping out bullying than a fine ever would.

    • Bullying is definitely a behaviour kids usually learn from their parents, so this isn't actually a bad strategy. It'll be interesting to see if it works.

      • Also includes cyberbullying. What a load of crap. Good intent, I guess, but like the article said, the police don't expect to enforce it.

Good. I was bullied for three years in middle school and most bullies' parents didn't give a fuck.

Good. Many parents choose to ignore their children hurting others, and this could force some of them to pay attention.

          • I think that the best solution would be to put the kids who bully into a program that will figure out the problem and work to solve it. The parents might not be the problem, or the problem (they're abusive, or they aren't around enough) might not be something a fine would help. The fine might even make the problem worse. The intent is good, but this is just a band-aid solution.

          • Complete nonsense. Just anther reason to get your child out of the State and out of these joke public schools. I'm so glad my brothers are home-schooled.
