Was the titanic a slap to the face of British ship building?
At least until the Dreadnought?

It definitely was a wake up call concerning safety measures aboard larger ships. But a slap? Slap as in it was an embarrassment? Indeed yes. Hecka bunch of people die because of your ship sinking? Plus the fact it was a huge financial loss.
