Why do we pay more attention to smokers?

And not the obese? Now, I'm not here to dictate what people can and can't put into their bodies but isn't obesity in America a far bigger problem than smoking? Now I'm mainly talking about advertisements. Almost everywhere I go I see an advertisement to stop smoking and how bad it is for you. Whenever I'm watching tv there isn't a day when I don't see that damn smoking commercial and the people speaking out of tubes or had seizures and now require assistance with their daily lives. Yet, there is almost nothing regarding obesity and how fast food is terrible for you. There are prime examples of what eating so much does to you but no one cares, everyone is too focused on how bad smoking is. Do people just find it more socially acceptable to be fat than a smoker?

Smoking affects others in the nearby vicinity, whilst weight is a more personal thing - i.e. it only affects you. There's anti-obesity campaigns in Australia - TV ads trying to persuade you from eating too much fast food.
