While Gatsby is always thrown out there as the great american novel, I absolutely hated it due to the fact that I was "forced" to read the book, to the tone of tests and homework assignments.
Now that everyone is complaining that the movie is terrible, It just makes me wonder; Who actually enjoyed reading this novel, and what made anyone think it would be good as a movie adaptation?

Edited by VerticalGradient: 5/11/2013 8:17:07 PMThe first time I read it I was confused with being instructed to make sense of all the symbolism, whereas the second reading I had a better teacher who actually helped make sense of the novel and its meaning, so the second time I enjoyed it more. I can appreciate it for its meaning and Fitzgerald's writing, but I'm not really fond of it. I still keep my copy on my bookshelf, but I prefer to read sci-fi and fantasy and such. Probably poor decisions on part of whoever was involved in creating the new film, but it'll probably be a box-office success because DiCaprio.
