It lampshades the ridiculous things, it toys with previous canon and it's a whole lot of fun. At the very worst, it's the third best Star Trek film (after Wrath of Khan and First Contact, obviously), but with a second viewing it might even be my favourite.
And I -blam!-ing hate JJ Abrams.
I saw it in 2D, so caveat emptor with 3D. (-blam!- 3D) Acting is great from Quinto and Cumberbatch, humour from Scotty and McCoy is good too.
While the last one wasn't always great (I'm looking at you, first 10 minutes), this one is certainly more even in quality and the writing feels better.
Also, the fact that the 12 seconds bit actually takes 12 seconds was great. Makes the film feel more real-time, and the amount they fitted into that time was amazing. I hate it when they say "we have two minutes" and then talk for 10 minutes.
So, yeah, it's good. I'm sure when you Yanks can actually see it you'll agree. ;) Based UK early release dates.

Planning on seeing it at the midnight release next week. I was thinkin' of wearing my friend's female Captain's uniform, but she wants to wear it... The last movie I saw many times and liked a lot, but I had mixed feelings. It's a great space adventure film, but not that great as Star Trek. It was a fairly generic time travel revenge plot and full of overblown action. The only real Star Trek-iness part was the characters. Like I said, I really enjoyed it, but have mixed feelings about it as Star Trek. But it's all we have, so might's well feel good about it. The old movies aren't going away. Really looking forward to the new one, despite it's seemingly Oh-No-Earth-Is-Threatened-And-The-Enterprise-Is-The-Only-Ship-That-Can-Save-It-So-Let's-Also-Blow-It-Up-Because-It-Looks-Cool plot.
