When I was about 9, I wanted to watch Harry Potter but my grandmother wouldn't let me, when I asked her why she said that it was because it had talking snakes in it which meant it was honoring the devil. Unfortunately for my grandmother my young mind interpreted this as saying "You have to choose between religion and snakes." As a looked at a framed picture of Jesus later that day, I suddenly thought to myself; 'Do you know what's cooler than some dead guy? Snakes.'

I never took church seriously, but it took until first grade (so ~6?) for me to acknowledge to myself that what they were teaching was probably wrong.
