LotR plot hole (yes, the eagles)
Okay, so the eagles refused to fly Frodo to Mt. Doom with the ring because of the risk of corruption. So why didn't they give a shit about flying Bilbo & co. away from those goblins/wolves when [i]he[/i] had it?

They didn't know he had it. You can't be corrupted by the ring if you don't know it's near.

The Eagles are servants of the Maiar. They aren't allowed to interfere with the affairs of mortals.

The Eagles don't like to get involved with anything. The only reason they ever helped was because their King owed Gandalf. Plus, they didn't know Bilbo had the ring at the time.

You know, I bet there are a bunch of other plot holes in LotR, but Tolkien craftily included the eagle thing to distract people.

Because Bilbo only picked up the ring a few hours beforehand , maybe a day at most. No one knew he had it.
