I thought this was hilarious justice and sad at the same time.
Comment on the hypocrisy and self-entitlement of far too many people who call themselves "gamers."
TL;DR:
>Greenheart Games releases a video game development simulator called "Game Dev Tycoon."
>Secretly, they also upload a slightly different version to a torrent site.
>Pirates download the "cracked" version (which is actually the secret, slightly different version).
>In the "cracked" version, over time, piracy causes your company to go broke and you lose the game.
>People who downloaded the "pirated" version complain about piracy in the game. Some even suggest that players in-game should be able to implement DRM.
>Lol's and tears were had by all.

Beaten the game twice Never knew they did this... The justice is real

Most amusing. Isn't irony wonderful :-)

I heard about this a while ag-
Apr 29 2013
Okay, who bumped?

That game looks fun.

Funny .. guess that does fall within the bungie spirit of funny. It reminds me of a studio named bungie, who assisted in the theft of a mobile platform game. But good ole bungie played the gag one step further ... bungie abandoned the whole project (but only after sucking every ounce of press out of the "we love indie developers" story line). So burn the original game idea ... Then burn the developer you promised to help ... And what did it cost them ... nothing ... well done.

What a prank. 8/8.8
-
LMFAO!
-
YES. I heard about this and I laughed a bit too hard.
-
I think it's pretty funny that they did that. Showing them the consequences of their actions. Very clever.
-
The problem here is the pirated version assumes the player will lose sales to pirates as opposed to that copy never being played. Interesting, but utterly explainable.
-
trolololol pirates just got pwned i want to play this "cracked" version but that would be pirating....
-
Does anyone really believe that he "lost" 93% of his sales cos of this? As if every single pirate download is someone who would have paid for it?
-
My Destiny 2 game (AAA/Fantasy/MMO/RPG) sold 60,187,274,219,633 units generating 842,621,839,081,003 in sales, wherein is was on the market for about 8 years, with a new expansion pack every month and a half to two months, where it received ratings between 8 and 9.75.
-
Haha, that's great.
-
I think this whole situation was one huge publicity stunt.
-
I think the main point to take home is the eventual increases in pay-to-play and social games if things don't change. God that'd bite a shitload of people in the ass.
-
That's quite clever on the devs part.
-
I bought the game and im enjoying it
-
so where do you buy this latest entry into themepark tycoon?
-
That's brilliant... wow...
-
That's awesome.
-
Bloody awesome!
-
This is just great. I can't stop laughing at the irony.
