Apparently there are some people who keep responding (or trying to) to me and I can't see their posts because I have them muted. Sometimes they keep responding as if I'm talking to them.
Do they know they are muted?

No, they don't. But neither should you as long as you don't click the "show all posts" link. For example, I didn't know Recon 54 even posted here anymore until I saw that he edited your post.

The muted do not know (but may suspect) that another member has muted them. But they can't be certain unless that member tells them. Either in a childish get-in-the-last-word of "muted" or something similar. The mute is just a single click way to enforce a "you know what, I am never replying to this person again" desire. People always want to "get the last word in" or "win the argument", as if such a thing is/was possible. So no, if you've muted someone, or someone has muted you, the only way that the muted person will know is if they are told by the person who clicked on the button.

Were you notified that I muted you? There's your answer.

Don't know.. haven't really muted anyone.

It's also possible to check if you're muted through the PM system. If I mute you, you won't be able to PM me (you'll get an error message). But when you initially mute someone, they aren't notified.

I don't know, I don't mute people
