Ben Affleck Vows to Live on $1.50 for One Day.
Uh, stay in bed and watch TV?
I can respect that as a high-visibility person (aka celeb) Mr. Affleck wants to raise awareness to the fact that much of the world lives in poverty. But just 1 day? A week, I would consider to be something significant and not easy to do.
There is also the fact that in areas that are impoverished, $1.50 can go a lot farther than it can in a Hollywood grocery store. I've seen those ads that tell me that I can feed a dozen kids for pennies a day.
So, I am a little mixed on my thoughts and reactions to this event. Part of me gives him some credit and praise for trying to raise awareness and part of me is scoffing at his commitment of "doing it for 24 hours". Hell, people willingly fast for longer periods of time.
What do you think? Is this an overall good thing? A good idea? Or, is it a bit shallow?

Anyone can for one day. There are days I would voluntarily do nothing and ate only ramen noodles. Doing it for one day is just a vacation. I'd say 3 days and you're making a point. But, being he is Ben Affleck, simply announcing it gets people talking, as we are now. So I guess given his stature, he doesn't have to do it for long to be effective at getting his message out. Heck, he really doesn't even have to follow through with it, since just saying he would gets the message out that he wanted.
