What does a game's soundtrack mean to you?

Do you think that soundtracks are so important that they make or break AAA games? Or do you think that soundtracks are an addtional extra to the game? I think they make or break AAA games such as Halo, CoD, Elder Scrolls, and Assassin's Creed. Examples 1. Halo (Never Forget) 2. CoD (Code of Conduct) 3. Elder Scrolls (Morrowind theme) 4. Assassin's Creed (Ezio's Family) 5. Destiny (I'm loving it so far) What's your opinion?

 • It's not exclusive to AAA games at all. Soundtracks can definitely be crucial to a game's design. Games that rely heavily on atmosphere need to have a good soudtrack. The most obvious examples off the top of my head are Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill, and and Bioshock. In heavily stylistic games, the soundtrack can also play a huge role in reinforcing a certain aesthetic. That would include the previous games, but also games like Okami, Jet Set Radio, and Katamari. Just try to imagine those games without their soundtracks. It'd be completely different.
