Lancer
Needler
Bullseye
Auger
These are some of the most iconic weapons of the FPS genre.
They are iconic for several reasons but I want to focus on one: They each have a signature that makes them remarkable and rememberable.
The Needler looks gay. It's purple. It shoots purple crystals that fly through the air. But it's deadly. It makes your target explode, albeit in a purple explosion, but an explosion none the less. It makes a statement: I may be gay for using this gun, but you're gayer because you're dead.
The Lancer is the epitome of badassness. It's a highly accurate and unrelenting machine gun instead of an assault rifle. And if holding a 60 round magazine and being able to almost cross map with it on full auto wasn't enough, it features a chainsaw as a subweapon, not a grenade launcher. Why? Because chainsawing pale faced needle teethed monsters and turning them into bits while being covered in their blood, gore and gunk is more badass than simply blowing them up.
Bullseye and Auger both come from the same franchise and the original Resistance gave us plenty of weapons to pick from (Hurricane, Splitter, Reapers) these stand out the most, and have been in (nearly) every game of the franchise. Both of these weapons tell cover and corners, where your wounded victim has fled and is hiding, to STFU and GTFO. The Bullseye literally lets you shoot around corners to finish the target off, or retreat to cover and fire at him with impunity. The Auger literally shoots through walls. If you can see it, and you will see it with a scope that lets you see through walls, you can shoot it and kill it.
All of these weapons are iconic because they have a signature. They are unique. They are out there. They turn the mechanics we know about the shooter genre and turn them on their head.
So please Bungie. When crafting Destiny and her weapons: Give me a gun that makes me look like a fairy who is about to explode you. Give me a gun that looks like it's an ultimate badass and makes me feel like one as well. Give me guns that circumvent the rules and let me win.
