Alternatives to an Alienware?
I had planned on getting one of [url=http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/pd.aspx]these^[/url] when I start my classes, however I'm starting to have my doubts in regards to this pc, especially considering that three people on here have recommended that I don't get a Alienchode. I hear a lot of different things about Alienchodes, both positive and negative but mainly the latter. The number one thing that I hear is that they're over priced and over rated.
So does anyone have any recommendations for a better pc? Preferably one that is a similar size to the one I posted. Also, if you're a Alienchode owner or have had one in the past, can you share the experiences you had with it? Like what were some problems you have/had with it? What did you have to replace and when did you have to replace it? Stuff like that.
Edit: Pretty much all of you guys are saying to build one myself, so I guess that's what I'm going to do. Better start looking at parts and what not... Thanks for the suggestions.

It all depends on what you want it primarily for. If you want a pc to be used primarily for gaming build one. If you want one primarily for school, I'd say get yourself a Dell

Buying a ready-built, especially a gaming-specific rig means that you don't want to, or your don't mind spending the money on a "boutique" PC. Nothing wrong with that, many people make that choice, but if "what you get for your money" is any sort of consideration, you are MUCH better served by shopping around, assembling your own components and having a rig that is completely what you wanted and chose. The main complaint that anyone has about boutique PC's is that "cost to value" gap. They're made from the same components that people use in their own PC's, they're well assembled, they come with warranties, they usually have some style to their case, but in the end, you are spending most of your money on the nameplate and the fact that someone else put it together for you. If someone is dead set on not building, there is a way to get Alienware for cheap(er). *grabs OP* NO! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO! NOOO! I reccomend: A) Build your own(cheapest route) B) Get a PC from ANYWHERE else. With alienware you are paying a lot more FOR THE BRAND NAME.

Like everyone else said, build your own. You can build a much better desktop for the same amount (maybe even less) money.

In order of cheapest/quality: -Build your own (cheapest/3 hours of your time) -ORIGIN PC (a bit pricey, but excellent warranty and build quality is great) -Powerstation PCs (unknown, but cheap)

Build your own, unless you need a laptop, then Asus G75vx.

Alienware, Dell, whoever...they don't make the actual CPUs, memory, video cards, harddrives, motherboards, etc. All they do is pull parts off a shelf and assemble PCs in a fancy case. You can buy all those parts yourself. Seriously, it isn't hard at all to build a PC and is a great learning experience. Do it yourself.

2 RepliesThere's actually nothing wrong with Alienware besides its reputation people have chosen to both attach to it and blindly follow, just how you're calling it Alienchode. Parts are parts, they're the same anywhere. What IS bad about buying Pre-built, and this goes for any company that makes gaming PCs, is price. You are almost always better off building something yourself to your own specifications. It doesn't take much to know how, just do a little research,watch some videos and do it.

Honestly the only issue is the pricing, they play just fine. However as probably already stated, you could build one just as good, for cheaper.
