What kind of computer should I buy for college?
I am going for an art degree for animation and plan on having adobe products such as after effects to run on this computer. I was recommended by the department head to get a MacBook Pro but I am still considering other options. What would you recommend?

Do not get a Macbook pro. You can just get a way cheaper pc/laptop and put mac os on it. Do not buy a mac.
