As the investigation into who was behind the Boston bombings goes on, Muslim communities are braced for a backlash should the perpetrator share their faith.
The day after the Boston Marathon bombings, Yusef was treated differently.
The 10-year-old went to his Ohio-area school and was surprised by a question from a classmate, according to his family. While the class was discussing the explosions, the classmate is said to have asked: "Does that mean Yusef is going to blow up the school?"
"We're all on the edge of our seats praying that the person who did these acts isn't a Muslim. We're tired of being blamed for the actions of one person."
A white terrorist will be framed as an individual aberration. A culprit who is an Arab, Muslim or black American will vilify an entire community of people”
It's a sentiment shared by many, especially among Arab, African, Asian and Sikh Americans.
Thoughts? I think it's unfair to brand a whole group on the actions of a few

Sorry but the whole Islamic religion just needs to go away. Fanatics of your religion are just too damaging and outweigh whatever good has been done in the name of Islam. I know it's the age of "Durrr let's tolerate everyone" but enough is enough. Oh and here is my representation of Muhammed, suck it. O-l-<
-
The thing is that it isn't the actions of a few. There are entire countries full of them

We should start differentiating between Shia and Sunni.

it's gotten to the point that the genuinely innocent Muslims, who work and practice their faith in peace, can no longer be distinguished from these extremists. if you ask them whether they think Extremists are in the same category as them, they will immediately say "no, they are not true followers of Islam, they are deluded fanatics". which is true, they are. after 9/11, 7/7 and other attacks, most of us have decided to simply suspect EVERY Muslim, under the logic that accusing everyone means you have to be correct at some point. now anyone who wears a Burkha or speaks Arabic suddenly becomes a suspect. I hope they aren't Muslims either, but they most likely will be, probably with links to Al Qaeda or ISIS.

What I don't understand is why if a Muslim kills people, it's pointed out he (or she) is a Muslim in the news several times. I don't recall any outlet making a comment about Adam Lanza's (Sandy Hook) or James Holmes' (Auror Theater) religious views.

WWII Russia would solve this terrorism issue real quick

Something to consider.

Edited by Infiltrat0rN7: 4/22/2013 10:20:59 AMI hope most people know that your generic American Muslim is the one that would get killed in Saudi Arabia (I'm saying that in a positive way too) My community has a large muslim community and i can say for myself, they would not last long in a extremist Islamic area

I remember when I was little and 9/11 occurred. We used to make block towers in school. One day some guy came over, toppled mine, and when I told the teacher he said that "I did it." and started crying. The teacher consoled him, and I just sort of sat there. Yes, it bloody well is unfair to brand a whole group on the actions of a few. I'm Muslim (but no I'm not a fracking Zealot. If you've seen my posts on this forum I'm both mathematically proficient- though not to the degree of some of the other wizards on here-, and a paleontologist.) but I don't allow it to constrict my way of thinking. I turn to science for my way of thinking. It asks the questions, and makes me search for answers. I turn to Islam for solitude, when I need to tune out. It makes the questions unnecessary (for a time).

This is why I hope he's not Muslim. So the whole issue of religion of said terrorist isn't a stereotype anymore.
-
Edited by GreenLeaves: 4/21/2013 7:06:23 AMI think it's unfair. I know tons of muslim people. They aren't as bad as people say (because they never met them or they are just racist).

Edited by Swim Good: 4/19/2013 2:39:46 PMWow, who'd have thought they'd actually be Chechen (Chech isn't a nationality BTW, Czech is but that's another country entirely). I wonder if the US will team up with Russia to invade Chechnya now seeing as how I'm sure the Russians would love an excuse to wipe it off the map. The vilification of all Muslims by America is a shameful thing and, unfortunately, I only see this making it worse.
-
I was hoping he wouldn't be a muslim too. The last thing they need is more fuel on the fire.

Edited by Masque of Night: 4/21/2013 4:49:15 AMI think it's confirmed that they are...but they're Russian, though, so they put a new spin on things.

I read on CBC that the older brother had converted to Islam. I don't exactly remember, but I think the younger one did too. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't feel that Muslim communities in the West are doing enough to fight radicalization. Not that it's an easy fight by any means. But some of these terrorists aren't preying just Arabic Muslims anymore. One of the terrorists who was killed in the attack on the Nigerian gas plant was a white kid from London, Ontario. Think he was in his early 20s. The kid grew up Greek Orhtodox, too. Obviously someone got to him and messed with his head.
-
I assure you OP, its not just american muslims. The muslim community here in Australia were also hoping the terrorists werent muslim.
-
Edited by OptimusPrime 15: 4/21/2013 2:48:22 AMHe is Muslim. He's from Chechnya. Most of the people in that part of Russia are muslim. He may not be but his father is.

No shit.
