I'm going to have to go with Counter Strike.
The skill gap is like the Pacific Ocean, and it really shows off when you improve your game a lot. It's incredibly challenging playing against other skilled players, and extremely rewarding when you win with good tactics and good communication.
IMO, there is no game out there that reaches CS's height in competitiveness.

Edited by o0MrCheesy0o: 4/17/2013 3:21:09 AMQuake Live - Counter Strike is random, campy, and breaks down when played in anything other than 4v4. Quake has more depth, and a larger skill-gap. It's the competitive first-person shooter - it's not just about aiming and movement, but resource management too. It's a unique, fun combination.

Mario Party
-
-
Starcraft.
-
Chess. And lol at people who say Quake. Thats almost as casual as Halo 2.
-
I didn't find counterstrike to be that hard when I first played it. After hearing from so many people how the skill gap is huge and its so hard.
-
Call of Duty
-
Pong.
-
Quake 3/Live
-
Halo 4 fo sho
-
Tetris
-
Super Mario Bros for the Wii. That game will end marriages.
-
eve, easily.
-
Pffff. Easily StarCraft. Although Counter Strike has more skill than most things today.
-
Quake off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more but Quake is crazy competitive.
-
VIVA PIÑATA is soo hardcore that game made the competitiveness more competitive
-
Super Smash Brothers (N64), of course... :D

Edited by KingInTheNorth: 4/17/2013 4:19:33 AMStarcraft. Need I explain?
-
LoL in my opinion. I have never seen people rage that hard in a game before. People take it too seriously.
-
Well, those EVE Online guys eat, sleep, and breathe that game. It's hard to get more competitive than player alliances numbering in the hundreds going to war over whole sectors of space.
-
Counter Strike? lol I didn't even read the OP and that's what I guessed. Outside of that, maybe StarCraft. Sad thing about those games is Blizzard's multiplayer team caters almost exclusively to the uber-competitive players there.
-
Battleship!
-
I find MOBA's to be the most competitive.
