Republicans threaten to use the filibuster to block stuff in the Senate. I'd like to see their bluff called. See how long they are willing to drag something out before they start damaging themselves in the process. Even if it took months, and months, and months...

OP, the filibuster doesn't exist anymore like you think. Republicans haven't threatened to use the filibuster, they have used it several hundred times over the past few years alone. You don't have to stand up and speak forever anymore to filibuster. All you have to do is say, "I'm filibustering" and then the Senate needs 60 votes to break that filibuster.

I wish they would both shut the -blam!- up Libertarian Government > Any other kind

Edited by Celt: 4/13/2013 3:53:23 AMEach party always says things that never happen. I don't really care for politics that much anyway. I just like to know what's happening in my country and when the time comes to vote again I'll try to make the best decision. But in the end, did my one vote really matter? I wish both parties would just agree on something for once.

Did you not see Rand Paul Filibuster earlier? I'd say their bluff was called long ago, and he showed he was serious about the issue.

Edited by Quantum: 4/12/2013 10:56:05 PMWhat if Mitch McConnell filibusters his own bill...

They have been. On unimportant matters. That's why the fiscal cliff happened. The two sides playing chicken.
-
Both sides have done it before. American politicians (well any) only seem to care about their party now a days.
-
They'd drag it out to the end of time. As time goes by, popular support for these kinds of things dwindles. Gun control is a core Republican issue, and support for it has dipped below 50% now. Fiscal policy is one of the only popular things the party has right now, so they won't compromise much there.
-
At some point it only makes them look bad, but even being as obstructionist as they are now should be enough for people to wake up.
-
It worked for Mr. Smith.
-
This is why I am independent, both sides are stupid in their own way.
-
Or intelligent people could call them both out on destroying this country at equal rates. Rand Paul did a great thing.

So you want the kind of delays expected whenever a local council promises to fix a pothole? Fetch a porta-loo, grabs some crates and settle in for the long haul lads.
