What's your opinion on "always-on" video games and consoles?

I remember a good point that was brought up. God forbid something like the PSN hack happens and the network has to be taken down for an extended period of time.. your console becomes a brick that can't do anything.

Stupid overall. when teh internet is out, for any reason, it is useless.
