We always debate about gun control and the legality of certain types, but what about knives? Nobody ever talks about knife control (except the British). Why is it so hard to get a switchblade? Why is it illegal to carry one? Why can I open or conceal carry a handgun, but I can't walk around with a sword or large dagger?

screw you, im carrying an ax from now on
-
You mad, humans?
-
Because they're scaaarryy.
Why can I open or conceal carry a handgun, but I can't walk around with a sword
Both should be illegal. Both are only for killing, so neither should be allowed.
Why can I open or conceal carry a handgun, but I can't walk around with a sword or large dagger?
Wait, actually?

Edited by Wyldfyre: 4/7/2013 4:31:32 PMI still don't understand how here in England, you can carry a large knife if you're a chef or a Stanley blade if you're in construction, and you're allowed to carry ANY knife as long as the blade is less than 3 inches, but you can't even buy, import, carry or own a balisong knife because "it's a quick-deploy weapon". As if having a folding (non-springloaded) knife is "quicker to deploy" than a kitchen knife or any other kind of one-piece knife/blade.

Edited by Telec: 4/7/2013 3:39:02 PMThis is utterly ridiculous. If you outlaw swords, then law abiding citizens will be the only ones affected. Criminals won't care, and they'll be reassured because they know that citizens won't be carrying swords, allowing them to commit sword-crime with impunity! The common household sword is a vital part of our ability to protect ourselves and our homes against criminals! Look at Acre - King Richard took the swords off the people there, and look what happened!

In my state you can carry most knives as long as they are not concealed.
-
In Texas you can walk around with knifes as long as they have a length of less than 5.5 inches, so long as It's not a dagger, dirk, stiletto, etc. I've walked around with my Kabar while in town before, and no one really seems to care. Until I get my CHL, I have my Kabar attached to my Disc Golf Bag whenever I play, as some courses aren't in the best neighborhoods, plus it's always good to have an edge available to use. Too bad sword-canes are not allowed =/

Definitely one of the more useful things I own. Where I live, you can walk around with a sword or large dagger if you can see it. Knives with blades longer than 3 inches can't be concealed.

I love my pocket knife. It's not a weapon, it's a tool.

Very good point. I think people should walk around with a bow and arrows.
