I love it. I love it. Halo 4 easily secures its place as my second favorite Halo soundtrack now.
What are your favorite tracks?
Mine:
1) Foreshadow (favorite track in the entire series, tied with Arborea Above from CEA)
2) Sacrifice (favorite rendition of the Halo theme yet)
3) Aliens (atmospheric gold- I really like the choir, but my favorite part is that little tombstone-ish toooooong noise that plays at the end of each choir... verse?)
4) Convoy (so catchy...)
5) Cloud City (sounds so cool, like some of those atmospheric tracks from CE as the uploader said) and To Galaxy Extended (So much epic... as in, there's so much of it- I could have sworn the tracklist said it was only ~7 minutes...)

Can we get some Pylons love in here???

I've listened to it through about 3 times now, I'm seriously struggling to decide whether Halo 4's OST as a whole has managed to topple ODST from the top spot because both are just so -blam!-ing good. Neil and Kazuma make such a perfect duo - Neil is able to create really definitive alien ambient pieces (Aliens, Swamp, Legacy, Haven, Cloud City, This Armour etc) as well as character themes (Revival, Nemesis, Green and Blue, Awakening etc) while Kazuma handles the more epic, large scale tracks which bring you back to the more familiar ground of Halo's past music (Lasky's Theme, Sacrifice, Never Forget, Majestic, 117, Gravity etc). I bloody well hope they're brought together again for Halo 5 and 6. It's a shame that Sotaro Tojima did such a poor job implementing these tracks in the game, they're nowhere near loud enough so I can't appreciate them the way I should. I was listening to Push Through by Davidge which plays during the Scorpion 'rolling thunder' sequence in Infinity and it was absolutely epic but I barely recognised most of it because it's so damn quiet in the game. My top 6 tracks from Volume II would be: 1) Lasky's Theme 2) Escape 3) Aliens 4) Majestic 5) Gravity 6) Wreckage (I just could not bring myself to call it a 'top 5' and leave this one out)

Edited by CoRaMo: 4/10/2013 2:35:06 AMAh man, the Midnight Version of Never Forget is amazing! Edit: Majestic is the perfect closer to the album.

I really love Kazuma Jinnouchi's tracks, most notably Sacrifice, his Midnight Version of Never Forget, Lasky's Theme, and of course 117.
-
-
About the epilogue piece you mentioned, that's 117.
-
Kazuma Jinnouchi is on par with Marty, on my opinion. Neil Davidge as well, perhaps. 117, Sacrifice, To Galaxy and Arrival are better than most other Halo songs.
-
Thanks for the heads up Roach! Completely forgot!
-
I'm surprised we didn't get that song from Reclaimer and so commonly heard in Spartan Ops in Volume 2. I thought that with 343i so intent on shoving that song into our ears during SpOps they would add it to the soundtrack.
-
Never Forget (midnight) should be the Halo 4 theme song.
-
Jinnouchi > Davidge.

Edited by kgj: 4/9/2013 7:33:16 PMConvoy is so catchy... Sacrifice is the most epic rendition of the Halo theme ever... Never Forget is better than ever... Aliens and Foreshadow (my favorite track in the entire series along with Arborea Above) is as atmospheric as CE... It's all so good...

"This video has been removed by the user" NOOO
-
Man, I was hoping "Cloud City" was going to be Halo's version of "I'm Han Solo."
-
As good as marty is, Halo 4's OST is actually better since I listen to all the songs while I pick and choose from Halo 3,ODST and Reach which has 80% crap music.
-
I love Massive Attack, but it just ain't Halo. Not that it's bad, there's this one part from one soundtrack that I effortlessly search for because it's awesome. It has a piano.....

Edited by Xmark120: 4/4/2013 8:00:19 PM- No memorable/epic tune; - reskinned tunes from The Awakening.
-
I like Gravity. It's too bad the album is only available as a digital download though. I would have liked to have an official hard copy.

Edited by Trasochi: 4/7/2013 4:58:52 PMI very much enjoyed the Halo 4 soundtrack, the Star Wars vibe in the last quarter of the game worked very well imo. The music was well written (not on the same level as composers such as Marty O'Donel or Jeremy Soule, but superior to a lot of video game music) but unfortunately it was not very well implemented, most of the time I didn't notice it.
-
As I said before: Gravity, Wreckage, Aliens, Escape, Swamp, Lasky's Theme, Foreshadow, This Armour, Sacrifice and Majestic are all -blam!-ing amazing. Definitely among the best Halo tracks, yet it's going to go totally underrated by the community because it's not bloody Marty. Pylons and Push Through reminds me of the good ol' days of Crash Bandicoot on PS1, but they oddly feel really fitting. :P
-
I also like how through most of Jinnouchi's pieces, there are elements from 117 in them. Sacrifice, notably, as well as Mantis. Reminds me of the original trilogy's soundtracks, and how a lot of songs would have a small tune or two in common.
-
I don't get why people are saying Majestic sounds like Star Wars, or that track at the beginning of Composer...
-
A lot of the music seems unrecognizable when you're listening to it without looking at the title. It's still great, but IMO Marty's music is much more iconic and innovative.

Edited by Green Twister: 4/4/2013 3:39:20 PMthis is the better part of the soundtrack i am glad that they give us the rest of it to buy. I hope Halo5 soundtrack is more different.

I love every inch of this post, especially the edit at the end.
