US President Barack Obama has unveiled a new initiative to map the brain.
Speaking at the White House, he announced an initial $100m investment to shed light on how the brain works and provide insight into diseases such as Alzheimer's and epilepsy.
President Obama said initiatives like the Human Genome Project had transformed genetics; now he wants to do the same with the brain.
The project will be carried out by both public and private-sector scientists.
The project is called Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies - or BRAIN.
Mr Obama said: "There is this enormous mystery waiting to be unlocked, and the BRAIN initiative will change that by giving scientists the tools they need to get a dynamic picture of the brain in action and better understand how we think and learn and remember. And that knowledge will be transformative."
Bloody American's your a day late.....Oh wait they are serious?

Don't we have more important things to worry about like the massive debt?

Edited by DarkSpyda04: 4/2/2013 6:00:27 PMIf this is true maybe we can finally learn a thing or two about dreams and maybe create a dream recording device? Many dreams should be revisited as you forget things from them after they pass. There are many inspirations that could come from dreams if we could rewatch them from a TV.

Edited by RighteousTyrant: 4/2/2013 5:42:22 PMHow is he announcing new spending projects while simultaneously crying that the sequestration is going to be our undoing? Even with the sequestration, he can implement new projects? Not much of a budget-cutting, then, was it? Maybe they should have used that $100M to keep illegals locked up, rather than turning them loose, or to keep ATCs employed, or to counteract any of the other myriad very bad things that sequestration was alleged to cause.

...Right... Well I guess it can lead to an increased understanding and all, but shouldn't we be working towards... I don't know, that massive debt that seems to endlessly be piling up?

Catchy name

Mapping the brain? Isn't everyone's neural pathways different, to the point it is individual like a fingerprint, and constantly changing? Perhaps this shouldn't be about mapping, but understand how it works completely.

Id like some light shed on how the hell his brain works.

I want to know why people think Alzheimers is more important than eating disorders.

I thought I heard about this weeks ago.
