Both are massive, popular fantasy epics, and in my opinion the two best fantasy works there are. Out of these two, which do you guys prefer?
It's a tough call, but as much as I love Harry Potter, LotR gets a slight edge for me. It just was so....epic. The concept of the journey, the encounters, etc, just gets me so pumped. The LotR trilogy remains as some of my favorite movies of all time.
I will say though, I do find the Harry Potter books easier to reread than the Lord of the Rings books.

The sheer physical expanse of LotR, the folklore, the magic, and the overall atmosphere was IMO much more interesting than Harry Potter. Now don't get me wrong, Harry Potter is an AMAZING story that I could not even dream of coming up with, but just the massive world where LotR takes place is much more interesting. There's so much history and so many backstories to it that it blows my mind. The books however are extremely hard to read mainly because the events occur at a much slower rate than the movies, but it can really help you feel like you are really part of the story, not just an observer watching the highlights of a sports game.
