Seriously, this is among my favorite games EVER, and I've only had it a few days. So far, I'm playing a standard warrior class with lots of melee and not much else. I'm at the first bonfire of Blighttown atm, and I was wondering if you guys have any advice for a noob player. Currently, I'm still using the drake sword, and i was wondering if it's about time to swap it out for something else (an upgraded laito katana maybe?). Also, I'm thinking i should probably get a few attunement slots and experiment with magic, but I'm hesitant to because it will use souls that might be better spent on vitality, end, str, etc. I might eventually just start a pyromancer (named melisandre) playthrough, to use magic and get acquainted with the more subtle aspects of the game. Thoughts? ideas? Suggestions? I'm really just wondering if there are any great things I'm overlooking, or terrible mistakes I'm making. And again, this is by far the most exhilarating, intricate, intense, intelligent game I think I have ever played. I am eagerly looking forward to the end of this semester, so I'll have time to really study the game and learn the tricks.

Definitely dump your drake sword. Experiment with the movesets of different weapons and see which one works best with your build. The drake sword is a crutch and new players who keep using it will get -blam!-ed when they reach Blighttown/Sen's Fortress. So yeah, get a weapon that scales better. Some even say that the drake sword is a deliberate trap.
