I know that often times, developers and gamers alike don't really care what the rating on a game is, but from what I've heard (all speculation of course), is that Bungie is aiming for a "T" rating for Destiny.
If this is the case, which I hope it isn't, it will be a huge mistake. The story for what Destiny is claiming to be, cannot be done justice if Bungie doesn't allow for the grit, violence, language, etc that would come with that setting, it can't be believable.
If the world is almost completely wiped out, and the human race is having to fight several other species in a last ditch effort to survive, you better bet that there will be "F bombs" dropped, there will be people being shot (meaning decent amounts of blood), etc.
Bungie, please, don't let yourselves be held back by a rating in order to get more sales. Make this game an "M" rated game. Anything less would be simply uncompelling and unbelievable, and would really detract from the story and mood that would be present should this situation in this game ever really happen.
-
Lord of the Rings - A classic, epic story, one of the best ever. A legendary tale of adventure. One the the greatest stories in the world, ever. Doesn't contain a single F-bomb.
-
Why do f-bombs NEED to be dropped? Can people not communicate realistic dialogue without cursing at one another? Why do you want there to be cursing so badly? Is your scope of what entertains you so limited that it doesn't allow you to like anything that doesn't have gore and coarse language? Because that sounds rather silly.
-
And here I thought a mythic sci-fi with space magic was meant to be "unbelievable"... Why is blood and language so essential for the narrative? Why is that gritty realism so important? Even Halo's compelling story didn't involve that language. The blood itself was but a detail that I didn't give a second thought to. What's wrong with a cleaner game to draw in more people to enjoy Bungie games (legitimately)? I'm suspicious that this is actually about drawing in that younger audience that makes you feel uncomfortable...
-
Yes I can see blood and grit in destiny but honestly the f bomb is over used, look at GTA5 it is used basically as every other word, and it makes a crapy script and makes you sound like an idiot with a five word vocabulary. There should be a good story and yeah make it intense but there is a point where it just gets over the top and stupid. M or T destiny will be destiny and we know it's going to be amazing.
-
No to the F Bombs, but the grit and blood associated with the M would be appreciated. If a story requires the F Bomb to tell the story, then it's not worth telling. Their are better ways to do things.

No 12 year olds.
-
I don't need any more from Bungie than what they delivered in the Halo games in terms of mature content. I want blood, and maybe some light swearing, and I think that may be possible with a T rating. If not, then I'd also like an M rating.
-
NOOOOoOoOoOoooooooo
-
I wanna say that the rating may be important in countries as USA where the stores can't sell a Mature rated game to an underaged kid, but it dosen't actually apply to every country, here in Mexico for example, the people from the stores rarely ask for your ID, even if a little kid comes with an extremely violent game in his hands. SO, in terms of actually increasing the selling ammounts of the game world wide I don't think it will make a significant difference. Even if the people from the store won't sell the game to an underaged kid, his older brother could buy the game and give it to them and that wouldn't stop them for playing.
-
I'm 100% with you. And does it really matter? Kids under the age of 13 already get their little hands on CoD and GTA. They wouldn't have a problem getting Destiny.
-
No. It doesn't. Even Jason Jones said he hopes for a teen rating so he can play with his kids!
-
I think it should be teen. I mean look at Brink. Brink is T and it has people fighting against their own government and there is blood too. It has violence and language and blood but it's still T.
-
If its fun, I don't care.
-
How awesome was Starwars? Not a Starwars fan? Ok. How awesome was Star Trek? Nobody can deny that one or both were epic successes and the story's told in those movies will be some of the best. What did they both have in common? No swearing. Lots of shooting and explosions, but were accessible to all ages. Honestly, an M rating would lower initial sales. Would you rather have a smaller community of Destiny gamers and risk a monthly subscription? Or have great sales to help fund the 10 years of content to follow?
-
No way
-
Of course it's going to be T rated. Knucklehead. They are aiming for a mass market blockbuster. Not an adult niche game. I would prefer it M of course, but not gonna happen. They spent 7 years to develop a game that they hope to captivate a generation with. :)
-
Totally agree OP, well said. M rating all the way!
-
Completely agree with you. It's like...what really awesome movie have you seen that wasn't R rated. Besides Fast and Furious.
-
Anyone who wants to see how enjoyable dialogue is when it's filled with profanity, go play Bulletstorm. It's as if it was written by some kid who just learned about swearing and doesn't quite know how to use the words, but uses them a lot. Bulletstorm is a fun game, the non-stop childish profanity ruins the story though.
-
Halo: Reach was an awesome game, and as far as I remember, nobody dropped the F-bomb! I mean, I might be wrong; if I am, someone please correct me.
-
it's so far into the future that curse words were eliminated from humanity's vocabulary. At least as we know them. I don't mind cursing, but it just isn't creative. It's been done too many times before. Plus, look at Halo. Destiny cursing will probably be similar.
-
So uhh, age rating = Good Story? Lord of the Rings...?
-
I personally don't like huge amounts (or really any) any swearing in my video games, which is why I liked Halo in that sense; there was hardly any swearing, throughout the entire series. I also liked how little blood and gore there was in Halo, how you would have to hit a dead elite/grunt/whatever like twenty times to get the amount of blood and "gore" as I've regularly seen in other games.
-
I mean Halo barely deserved it's M rating, so why can't Bungie tell a story with Teen rating? You have to be pretty low brow if the lack of swearing/gore makes a story unbelievable for you.
-
I think the teen rating is better, because Destiny is not meant to be an extremely violent and gory game, it is supposed to be an experience to remember, so there is no need for the extra violence and language.
-
Bungie please KIDS DON'T BELONG
