Laughing as they run up to the apartment complex, they walk into the lobby, masks from the Five and Dime still on, laughing like children as they pull out their keys. As they slowly take off the masks, they look deeply into each other's eyes and they both lean in close.
-
As they continue to walk around the city, Holly asks Paul if he's ever stolen from a Five and Dime, a store with little trinkets and candies for sale. When he says he hasn't, she takes him into one and they search around looking for an item to playfully steal.
-
Next, they go to the public library, a place Holly's never been, and Paul shows her that they have his book there, available for anyone to read. After getting the librarian to retrieve the book for them, Holly tells her that the author of the book, Paul, is standing right there in person, insisting that Paul prove it to the librarian by showing his ID. Instead, as he takes the book, Paul decides to write a message in it, causing the librarian to get flustered and they quickly leave.
-
Searching around the store for an affordable present, they ask one of the attendants for some help finding a gift. Of course he is surprised to find that they only want to buy something under 10 dollars.
-
They walk around the city, Holly stating that she's never taken a walk in the morning before, several times down 5th avenue at six in the morning, but she always considered that a part of the night before. As they walk around the city, Holly takes Paul to Tiffany's and shows him how magnificent it is.
-
Changing the subject, Holly asks Paul what he has been up to. He tells her that he's been writing more, and also gives her the good news that one of his stories sold. She congratulates him and says that they should celebrate with a drink or just a walk around the city. Paul says that he's never had champagne before breakfast, and Holly gets the idea that they should spend the day doing things that they had never before, taking turns as they go throughout New York City.
-
A few days later, Paul is seen walking up the stairs to his apartment, whistling the tune that Holly sang on the fire escape. He has mail in his hands, and we see that he has received a check for the sale of one of his books. Happy with the good news, he knocks on Holly's door, telling her that he's sorry for the other night and that he's come to make up. She lets him into the apartment, and he asks if she's seen the newspaper recently. As it turns out Rusty Trawler got married to his fourth wife, and as Holly found out later, he actually had no money for himself. In fact, he was $700,000 in debt and it was only his family who had money. As Holly states, Rusty Trawler turned out to be a super-rat, and she says to Paul that if he was rich, she'd marry him in a minute. He says the same to her, although his response has a more serious tone, as if stating that he would marry her now if he could.
-
After ascending the stairs to Holly's apartment, Paul carrying her on his shoulders, she asks him if he disapproves of her she seeks Rusty Trawler only for his money. Of course she disregards his opinion as she is drunk, and proceeds to climb on the countertop to reach a bottle of whiskey on the top shelf, stating that they should celebrate her decision. Of course, after all of the partys, the bottle is empty, and she becomes saddened, asking Paul if he has any alcohol in his apartment. He tells her that she's had enough, but she says she'll pay for it if she must. Besides, he's used to taking money from ladies by now. Taking offense to the remark, he says that she should be more careful with her money because Rusty Trawler is too hard a way of earning it. Being equally hurt by the remark, she tells Paul, "It should take you exactly four seconds to cross from here to that door. I'll give you two." And so he leaves, both of them in a saddened state.
-
Returning to the apartment complex after drinks at the gentleman's club, Holly is seen to be absolutely drunk, stumbling around and barely keeping her balance as she giggles and laughs about her past relationships, calling all of the men in her life rats, except of course Paul and Doc. It is at this point that she decides that she will no longer play the field, stating that it stinks both economically and socially. Although she makes $50 for a trip to the powder room with every date, she somehow finds herself with less money every time, and so she has decided to go for the bigger game and seek out a relationship with Rusty Trawler, the 9th richest man in America under 50. And although he looks like a small fat child, the money is what she is truly after.
