So...I still fail to understand bronies

Since I have a friend who is a brony, I decided to check out the opening, you know the thing you watch before the show and supposed to put you in the mood? Like the Justice League. Awesome show and an equally as awesome opening, given that it's a brilliant heroic them. But that was really...wow. It just further makes me question how 15/16 year olds can watch it. Also, why do alot of bronies like to "ponyfy" everything? Like making a pony of warhammer, starcraft and even Batman. In some scenarios they edit ponys into pictures of them, and sometimes act as if they're in a relationship with them.

  • I only watched the first episode to see what the big fuss was about, and I was majorly put off by the opening, but the episode itself wasn't that awful. Didn't interest me enough to go for another, but the intro was by far the worst of it.

  • The intro is often cited by the Brony community as being incredibly misleading. We concede that all the time. It's girly and sugary as hell, but the show itself actually has some degree of depth to it - at least more depth than other shows aimed at that demographic. There are some weird people in the fandom yes - a lot of them, actually. But that goes for every fandom. I don't understand anime fans, people who like country music, or people who find South Park funny. But that doesn't mean those people are stupid; they just have different tastes.

I don't blame them, the animation in MLP: FIM is eye-candy.
In some scenarios they edit ponys into pictures of them, and sometimes act as if they're in a relationship with them.
Seeing that I am what most would call a "Brony," I can assure you I've seen this all of four times in my entire life, and slightly more with anime characters.

  • The only thing I've ever watched that was related to that show was the .mov series.

    • I'm a brony. I loath the intro, it's not very enjoyable. The intro is the worst part of the show, you couldn't understand why people are bronies by watching it, so try a few episodes. If you don't like it, you're entitled to your opinion. But one step closer to understanding. ^^

    • I don't know, they follow the physiological path of the internet pretty well. But their persistence, openness, and commitment to the show puts them is a strange limbo of both sarcasm and truthful enjoyment of the show. This has confused me for the longest time, it has been known that adolescent males engage in watching "childish" shows, like adventure time, and other animated series designed for a younger audience. But not on this scale and willingness to express their enjoyment for the show. Their community is unique in that they are incredibly devoted to the show, as your observations of "ponyfication" show. Believe me, I've been puzzled by them for the longest time. I've looked all over the web for an explanation for their odd behavior and nothing has turned up. Not even the bronies themselves seem to know whats going on.

      • I don't see the issue OP. There are plenty of shows out there in which the OP doesn't reflect the show.

      • The show has it's moments and the animation has an addictive quality, but I don't see why bronies are so obsessed with it. Perhaps they are desperate for lost innocence.

      • Most Bronies admit to not being able to stomach the opening. I admittedly skip it each episode. And are you implying that the only sufficiently-sized piece of the show you have watched is the opening? If so, how can you "not understand" Bronies if you've barely seen anything?

        • I skipped the opening for the first 15 or so episodes I watched. It's annoying at first, but I guess I got used to it and it doesn't really detract from the show.

        • Neither do I. But I let them have their fun. Gonna be weird to look back on later for them, I bet.

        • I got a few things I hate: 1. Bronies fit the generalizations that they get such as being annoying, unable to tolerate (lolirony) other people's opinions, and are really weird. Almost everyone of them that I have seen fits the generalizations and I find it hard to go around the internet everyday without seeing something mlp related. I mean, how does MLP fit anything related to like minecraft or soul calibur, hmm? Hell, I find it worse in TF2 with the constant freaking pony sprays. 2. I hate ponifying so freaking much. It really makes me want to flamethrower the internet because of all the freaking pictures of ponified shit I have to trudge through. It is like the sonic fanbase with their "original characters". 3. They changed people that I knew. I used to have an awesome friend on xbox who I played Halo with roughly 2 times a week. Once he became a brony, he did not care for anything else except mlp. Now, instead of drawing cool art like he used to, now he draws MLP rule 34 (-_-). I honestly used to hate the idea of grown men watching the show, but I see clearly now that is was the fandom that I should be hating, not the fact they watch MLP.

              • The opening is indeed very off-putting and I skip it every single time. Definitely not the part you want to watch if you're thinking about trying the show.
