1 ReplyHmmm... But piracy is still a multi million dollar problem. Dev's can track the number of pirated games out there. How do they measure missed sales?

I hear that a lot, but i'm still not sure about the whole thing. I know that most people who are really into music, or are a huge fan of a band, will likely buy an album legally, and only download it illegally to check it out, or get it early or something. But, from what i've seen, it's an incredibly small portion of people. Like i said, it's usually the musicians or big music fans that will go as far as pirating, and then purchasing legally. Nearly everyone i know pirates their music, and i doubt most of them goes back to buy the album legally after they own it. And i find it hard to believe that the few people that do purchase legally are making up for the the sales lost due to pirating. All that aside: the main reason i don't pirate is because of how most musicians are screwed over by their labels. They make virtually nothing from album sales. So you may think that you're not hurting them by pirating their music, but it seems far more likely that the resulting loss in sales will cause the labels to treat them even worse, either by reducing their cut of album sales or by other ways. A label may go as far as dropping a musician if sales aren't cutting it.
