Public speaking is a pretty common fear, but how do you feel about it?
Have you ever done it? If so, what's the biggest crowd you've ever spoken in front of?
-
I'm really nervous but it has never stopped me, I've spoken publicly a few times and I've played music live in front on hundreds of people.
-
If it's my personal interest, I thrive. If I'm putting on an act, I can't handle it.

Does cheering count?
-
If I am talking about something that I am passionate about, I like it. Anything else, and I hate it with a passion.
-
If I have a plan, and I throw myself into the moment, I do a fine job. If something happens that flusters me though, it can get rather awkward fast though, that's the bit I'm working on at the moment.
-
How comfortable are you with your face?
-
I used to be fine with it at school, now not so much. Once you start speaking though your fear seems to vanish, its the build up I hate. I was once asked a bunch of questions on the jumbo tron during a half time show at an (american) football game. I was about 13 though so I thought it was awesome.
-
Not very. I don't enjoy, but I don't dislike it either. I've spoken in front of maybe 35 people at the most.
-
It's an art form, and I'm an artist. I'm very good at it, and I can only get better. World domination here I come.
-
For a short announcement? Around 700 probably. For something more serious? A trial pleading in front of 80 people or something. Just had to present a paper to a group of 30 something people earlier today actually. It went well.
-
If I know what I am going to say then it wouldn't too bad, but if I was put on the spot in-front of a large crowd I will go red in the face.
-
I enjoy it. I run music events so in a sense I'm use to it. Biggest crowd I've spoke in front of was about 800 people. It's more a sense of the more you do it, you'll slowly overcome it. In high school, speech was one of my favorite classes actually.

Honestly, I love public speaking. I get the whole butterflies, and nervousness, anxiety - everything. But, I feel as though I know how to connect with any audience on any subject because of the way I speak. I can brush things / mistakes off easily and give the audience something to laugh at. I can be serious, and I can get points across. I am a more dominant personality, but I'm also passive, so I can lead - while listening. I also supervise 2 coworkers, and 28 students, so it just comes naturally. I've always been the type to break the ice, or help others become more comfortable with the area around them when they are uncomfortable. I think it all ties into the ability to publicly speak.
-
I hate public speaking. The weird thing is that people tell me I'm good at it. I don't see it, though.
-
Never really been a big deal for me, especially after that class I had to take. Largest group? Nothing too big, about twenty or thirty people. Ten of which were on the director's board for the place I was interning at.
-
Depends entirely on the subject.
-
Public Speaking is actually kinda fun! The most amount of people I've spoken in front of is probably like 80ish :P

Edited by VIC: 3/19/2013 6:19:46 PMNever had a problem with it. Biggest crowd? Probably a couple hundred. I'll have an incredibly easy time if the subject is something I know about; if it's something I don't know much about...well, I can bullshit with the best of 'em.
-
I'm pretty comfortable at this point, which is weird because I used to be terrified of it. I've spoken in front of about 200 people.

Never had a problem with it. Though I am curious to try the now-famous "slack armed pose" that is capable of riveting millions. I tend to use my hands, bent elbows and all of that. But if Marty has deemed "slack arms" to be cool... gotta go with the trend. The last time I spoke in front of an audience, it was a couple hundred or so healthcare and IT professionals. The projecting system broke and my presentation was pretty data-loaded, so I couldn't just "talk and wave my arms trying to describe the documents that weren't showing". So, we paused for "water and bio-break" while the host's "tech guy" tried to get the projector back on line. I didn't realize it, but I started humming and my lapel mic picked up what I thought that I was humming to myself. It's a odd habit of mine, when technology doesn't work, I tend to hum the song as a way of verbally "twiddling my thumbs", and watching this poor guy trying to fix this, I didn't even know that I was doing it. As soon as I realized that I was being heard by the audience, I was mortified and stopped. What was amazing/funny is that a few members of the audience were singing along, and so I rejoined and we finished the song to a round of laughter and applause. It was REALLY weird. The song above is was I hum when I am working/waiting on technology to "get with the program".

It doesn't bother me that much. It probably helps that i did a few theater shows, so I'm comfortable in front of a crowd.
-
Very, it's one thing I can do very well, especially when it's a crowd of people I know. It's comfortable that way

Edited by Green Twister: 3/19/2013 5:29:50 PMhave almost never done that but i am like medium a bit shy lol

K this is me in public speaking! As I get closer my heart beats faster and I become more scared...then when I do it. I think to myself who cares might as well... I go to perform with my normal lazy look...perform then finish. I'm a lazy guy but I can be motivated to do something if I wanna and public speaking is one of them... Highest crowd: 500

I can and will do it if I need to but try to avoid it where possible. It doesn't bother me as much as it used to though.
