So watching some Destiny videos again I noticed this portal shows up in two different scenes here and here.
The entire structure of the portal is the same in both of these shots, meaning it must be a generic placed structure. I'm thinking that this must be used as some form of fast travel across the planet you're on? What's your take?
-
I would sort of hope they are not a fast-travel system, seeing as our ships are basically going to do that for us between planets. I'd rather hope they send us places we wouldn't otherwise be able to access, like underground, or to some planet/moon/asteroid that is for some reason inaccessable by ship.
-
Hopefully just for an instance. I wouldn't want there to be a fast travel system like that for such an expansive game until I felt I had experienced most of it's content.
-
Most people are assuming these portals lead from one place to another. They could be Vex time travel portals for all we know.
-
I like the idea of you and your buddies picking out your gear and preparing before going through the portal and facing whatever is on the other side. I hope some can be used as prep points and not just fast extraction if that is the intended purpose.
-
I would have to say these portals in particular are not fast travel portals. My reasoning behind this is because both those portals lead into what we think are 'raids' or enemy bases, so why would we be porting right into enemy bases? just a thought.
-
If these portals belong to us, that would explain how we'll be getting to the other planets. If so, portals like these could fill the gap of slip-space that Halo had (well, I guess it's basically the same thing lol). Hmmm...If these portals aren't our tech then I'm curious as to how we'll be traveling. Maybe our own personal hyper-drives in our Millennium Falcons? :)

Edited by MasterBarek: 3/20/2013 10:32:59 PMPersonally my working theory that the magic or powers the Traveler has bestowed upon on us are related to it controlling time/space much like Forerunners did in Halo with slipspace technology. It would also allow the Traveller to open or maintain portals to travel across our planet/solar system.

Now you're thinking with Portals! ... ...
-
I do see them as fast travel portals too.
-
Guess you can sort of fast travel to different locations on Earth.
-
Those are probably Vex Portals, you can compare the Architecture on the Frames to other known examples of Vex Architecture and you see that they match :) So is it a temporal portal? Fun possibillities abound.
-
Well if i'm not mistaken the vex are seen with all of the portal shots. My guess is they have something to do with the vex since they are time traveling robots.
-
SG-1 :) I was pretty excited when i saw it
-
They look more like stargates than portals. A good use i can think of for them would be a transport system on planets such as you need to move to a different sector say from UK to Africa, you just dial it up and you can quickly get to the portal stationed there.
-
there are a lot more images on these if you pause at the right time on the vidoc you can see a broken one at the bottom of the screen. Also there is a concept picture that has the same structure. I think we will see these across the world as we play Destiny, The easiest way for me to think about these are fast travel stations.
-
We may be looking at the same portal from different locations.
-
Good noticing! They could be just part of a large mission that Bungie was ready to show off, or they really could be an integral part of the experience across much of the game.
-
Fast travel on planet/planets?
-
Two words: Jump Gates. That's what a lot of people believe them to be.
