Goddammit. GTFO of the the U.S., you're like Texas, but even dumber.
Anyways, thoughts on this?

At first I thought this was that the schools just allow people to pray at school, which seems perfectly valid, acceptable and not harmful. And people who are mad about that are crying over nothing (madmax) But then I read the article. OP, you neglect to mention that this is letting them pray over the intercoms, at assemblies and the such. Why? Why you do need to get them to pray over the intercoms, just let the people just pray as it is a apart of their religion, but why over the intercoms and at assemblies, where many non-christian people will be an unconsenting audience?
-
I'd be praying to the devil to show how stupid that decision is.
-
-
I would be perfectly OK with leaving prayer to yourself, or with your religious members, but publicly announcing prayer like that is not OK.
-
All you guys butthurt get offended way too quick. No ones forcing you to pray, no ones forcing you to change your beliefs. You can be atheist in the comfort of your home or anywhere for that matter. Same applies for religious people, they can be religious in the comfort of their home or anywhere for that matter, they arent shoving anywhere down their throat. get over it
-
As long as any religious prayer is allowed, fine, whatever. But praying over an intercom is -blam!-ing retarded.
-
I'm honestly undecided on this.

Edited by Psycho: 3/16/2013 10:51:20 AMThis is a +1 move. They aren't forcing, but giving those who want to pray the chance. Well done Mississippi, you're not as bad as the rest of 'Murica.
-
ITT: Butthurt atheists If they want to pray, they can. Stop making such a big deal out of it.
-
Hey Texas ain't that bad! We learn about God, and how him and Jesus led the assault on the dinosaurs while riding large land-going whales and creating humans from the biological remains of butterflies.
-
Edited by Arky: 3/16/2013 7:39:37 AMToo bad I am not in school, or in Mississippi, or I would pray to Marty on the intercom. Oh, Marty who art thou in Bungie studios. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. on earth as it is in your studio.

Edited by Mad Max: 3/16/2013 7:57:49 AMI seriously don't see why people are incapable of keeping religion out of public institutions. Is having the freedom to practice your sacred religion in your own home, your place of worship, and any public area not enough? Do you have to do it in government buildings? Are they exhibitionists? Do they like to be watched?

Don't really want to read. Is this just to allow kids to pray if they want to? Like at lunch or something? If so then its fine dunno why bitching. But if forcing people to pray then stopit.
-
It's unconstitutional. A federal facility cannot have rules favoring one religion over another. Does every represented religion get to use the intercom for prayer? Probably not as this was probably proposed to make our children "right" by reading the word of their Lord, their savior, Jesus Christ. It's interesting that conservatives tend to hate government control when it isn't forcing the bible down our children's throats. -blam!-ing idiots.
-
Quick question since i am Canadian and have not read the 14th amendment but from what you are saying does that mean that the Government Favoring Non Religion over Region would also violate Equal Protection?
-
Also, i like how they cover up establishing religion in schools with "protecting religious freedoms." Why can't the children pray by themselves or in a small group.
-
I live in MS and we're not all religious or stupid for that matter. In fact, you're the idiot for being a generalizing asshole.
-
Edited by OaklandPaintbalr: 3/16/2013 5:43:38 AMFor everyone to see: Optional or mandatory, it does not matter. State-sanctioned prayer violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the Constitution. It's advancement of religion by the state, and therefore unconstitutional. You can thank the Founding Fathers for that. Let me make this clear: State-sanctioned prayer is unconstitutional. Kids can pray in school if they like, you just can't have the school organize and promote the prayer. For example, If a some kids want to make a Bible Club and pray at lunch, they can absolutely do that. But you can't have the public school, an agent of the state, organize the prayer.
-
Hey, go to hell. I live in texas. You have no idea what it was like.
-
Edited by A 3 Legged Goat: 3/16/2013 5:27:01 AMI don't see the problem. If students wish to pray they should be allowed to do so and reach out to others as well. You're not being forced to pray but it'll at least be respectful to give them that minute or two of silence
-
I'm a Mississippian and i'd would like to say a few things. teachers dont MAKE US PRAY. most of the prayer in school is over the inercom during football games before the game. this is how it works: in school there's a prayer list in the morning by the bible club, during the morning announcement we have a moment of silence. THEN YOU CAN PRAY. nothing is forced on you. also keep in mind that MS is the most religious state in the country. As for you OP. it's sorry pieces of scum like you that needs to GTFO of this country. we have right of religion. no one is getting forced to do anything thing they dont want to. so pack you stuff and go some where like china where everyone else hates god.
-
a few things: 1) thank God for Mississippi. with out them, Louisiana would be last in everything. 2) Have any of you ever been to the south? 99% of everyone down here is some form of christian. The only ones who aren't are some of the college kids who think they're cool and edgy for being atheist or who are just mad because their parents made them go to church instead of letting them play pokemon on sunday mornings. I'm pretty sure none of them are affected by this.
-
As long as they allow prayer for all gods, including Satan.
-
I don't care if kids at school want to pray, but teachers can't make students pray or anything. I respect people's personal beliefs as long as they do not effect others.
-
I need to head over to Mississippi to find some Muslim students and get them to troll.
