Worst Decision In Alien 3
After finally having watched the movie, despite knowing the reputation it had and what not, I still wanted to watch the movie for myself and to make my own opinions on it. I owed to myself since I loved Alien and especially Aliens. The worst decision IMO the movie did was killing off Newt and Hicks. The two characters you could most care about in Aliens.
Not the lulzy CGI Alien, nor some of the retarded prisoners, seeing Bishop come back to live for a short moment only to be taken away again, it was the damn lack of Newt and Hicks. I mean I understand the emotional malarkey that it allowed the movie, but c'mon, seriously? Six years after Aliens and they decided to let it go that way?
Goddamn it guys. Way to kill off perfectly good characters in exchange for a wide cast of idiots (although there were some good ones). Even then, I still decently liked the movie. Not necessarily a bad one, but definitely no where on the level of the past two. Now on to watch Resurrection.
Anyways, what did you think of Alien 3 when you saw it? What did you have against it?

Have you seen the special edition?, it's totally different. Both good films, certainly not the worst one in the quadriligy.

I still have never seen Alien3. Should I watch it? I really enjoyed the second one but I don't want to see a sequel that just shits on it.

The first movie was a squad vs one xenomorph The second one was a larger marine squad vs a ton of them I think they should have kept expanding on the size of the threat rather than try to use the same formula of the first one, though instead with characters we don't give a shit about. I mean they literally are criminals, murderers and rapists, why should I care if an xenomorph violently kills them all?

8 RepliesI honestly hated Newt, she is the only thing wrong with Aliens. Hicks is also my least favorite Marine. However, the way they are killed off is so stupid and lazy it really hurts the film, kind of giving the middle finger to the second. The Bishop scene was unecessary and hurt the film as well. And Alien 3 isn't terrible, it is just disappointing compared to the epicness of the first two. Now Resurrection is so bad it actually made me mad, mad that it is part of the Alien franchise. It just shits all over everything the movies built up and is so terrible and I hate it. Have fun watching it, and please respond to this when you do, I want to know what you thought about it.

1 ReplyI think killing off Newt and Hicks (in the opening credits FFS!) was obviously the biggest sin that movie committed. Michael Beihn was pissed over that. What could they have done to save the movie? Use any one of the better, earlier script drafts. Alien 3 became a completely different movie compared to what it was originally envisioned as. One version was about a infestation on Earth.

Seriously it would be a dream come true if they did a reboot of the franchise that started as a sequel to Aliens, and just ignored Alien 3 and 4, pretended they never existed.

I despise Alien 3. Newt was one of the best elements of the Alien franchise. Without her and her relationship with Ripley, Aliens would have been a b-movie at best. When they killed her in Alien 3, they dealt a serious blow to the franchise. Many fans were lost. The series, in my opinion, will never recover. The problem is that Hollywood just doesn't know when to quit. The Alien franchise could have gone out on a tremendously high note if Hill, Giler, and others has said no to Fox's request for another sequel. Then again, perhaps they couldn't say no to such a powerful organization. I wonder if their careers would have suffered if they did refuse.

I hated that movie. It basically took a shit on everything the franchise had once been. I wish it had never been made, same thing for Alien Resurrection. I'd like to see a real sequel to Aliens made by a decent director and good writers, one that just outright retcons Alien 3 and 4.
