Recently there has been several Borderlands sales; only months after the release and the game is already available at 50% off on Steam. In fact, just in November, 2 months after the game's release, it already had it's first 50% off sale. You can't help but wonder if they seriously need that money. Compared to, say, Black Ops 2, which just last week had its first serious sale, at 33% off.
Then, look at Bioshock Infinite. They are giving away so much stuff for preorder bonuses, you can't help but wonder if they seriously need all those $60s. They are giving away Bioshock 1 (which most games would already consider sufficient preorder incentive), many TF2 items (which, combined, would value around $15), and even one of their newest games, XCOM Enemy Unknown.
Just today, a sale started with the Civilization V Gold Edition, at 75% off. It's starting to look like THQ, which prior to its bankruptcy hosted a massive Humble Bundle and multiple Steam sales.
I'm thinking the GTA V delay also has to do with this. You might think "well if they want to make money why would they delay the game that will probably be their biggest hit in years". Well, if they sold in spring like they traditionally did they would actually sell less. There are no holidays for people to play games or get gifts of games in spring and summer does not come until mid-June (when many kids get to play games all day). By the time the holiday seasons come in October, November, and December there are newer games that will not only potentially be better but also receive more attention due to the boost in attention caused by the launch and everyone talking about it.

It's possible I suppose but then again they could just be extremely nice and want to give us awesome stuff.
