I was doing research on Joyeuse and I read that its hilt was forged with the Holy Lance. If you are not familiar with Biblical stories it is the spear that stabbed Jesus Christ. Another name for this artifact (the spear) is the "Spear of Destiny". Many forum users know about the theory that involves AI and swords. This could be a key link in what Joyeuse really is. It is both a weapon and an answer just like the AIs of the previous trilogies. If this really holds up then Destiny is Joyeuse and Joyeuse is probably our ally or something equivalent to that. We are literally fighting with, for, and to protect Destiny.
Ad Astra.
Edit: Cortana Five brought up a good point. At the end screen of Marathon: Infinity it says "YOU ARE DESTINY". I think that there could be a correlation between this and the possibility that we are actually defending Joyeuse since Durandal said it. It would make so much sense if we used the weapon and either the Traveller or the queen was Charlmagne (especially since he was a king and we have a queen) or even us somehow, but that seem less likely.

I also came up with a theory about possible connections with destiny and an ancient belief called the seven heavens, I believe the the ARG has some strong connections but other things may be a bit vague but imo I do have a strong feeling bungie may be making connections with destiny and the seven heavens. http://www.343industries.org/forum/topic/26195-destiny-the-seven-heavens-story-investigation/

Just to add my two cents, linking this bit to the Stone of Fal from Irish Myth (talked about in a few other articles), the Stone of Fal or the the "Stone of Destiny," actually, was one of four items held sacred in the mythological cycles of Ireland. The other three were a spear, a sword, and a cauldron. Thought it was neat that Joyeuse (a sword) was forged with the holy lance (a spear). Now, where's the cauldron?

We've been applying a lot of this irish myth thought to the guardians and traveler and all that... But I don't think that's accurate. the 4 magic items (stone, sword, spear, and cauldron) all belonged to various ancient irish kingdoms. Maybe each kingdom is related to different houses of The Fallen? Bungie said that the Fallen are made up of once noble houses so maybe those relate to those 4 kingdoms? The thing that made me think this is that Nuada Airgetlam, one of the kings of the Tuatha De Danann, had 4 arms!... but not all at once. He had his original 2 and lost one in battle. Then had a 3rd working arm made for him out of silver. And then that was replaced by a 4th arm, made out of flesh and blood again. I'll update this more if i find more. Even if this is all bullshit in relation to the game its pretty interesting to read about haha

The statement "YOU ARE DESTINY" and the fact that Joyeuse was made from the Spear of Destiny makes me think that the character and Joyeuse are two different entities and that Joyeuse will be wielded in some way by the character to ensure Humanity's survival. That's just my two cents though.

I like that idea. I, personally, have always linked it to final screen in Marathon Infinity.
