ITT we come up with reasons for each race to hate the Empire and side with the Stormcloaks
Imperials: renegades who know about inner corruption in the Empire, who is trying to silence them
Nords: well, nationalists who believe in the Stormcloaks cause
High elves: Thalmor agents setting out to weaken the empire by aiding the Stormcloaks
Can you think if any for the rest?

FOR THE EMPIRE
-
How many nations are in the Elder Scrolls planet? Oblivion Morrowind Skyrim How many more lands are there to explore?
-
The "Empire" consists of a bunch of elitist pricks who want to take your things and tell you what you can and can't do immediately afterward. They cowtow to special interest groups constantly and when the shit finally hits the fan they uproot their garrisons in the other countries to protect Cyrodil and Cyrodil only. Skyrim belongs to the people and the people have had it with those imperial dicks slowly suffocating our rights and traditions. Maybe if they were a bit nicer we would join them against the Thalmor but nooooo they want to control everybody and everything.
-
THEY CAN NEVER TAKE TALOS FROM ME.
-
I joined the Imperials because the game wouldn't let me finish the diplomacy mission without it. I promptly killed every Imperial in every stronghold soon after in retaliation.
-
As a wood elf I cannot stand the nords and the Empire must stay in power
-
Dark Elf- Understood how restrictive Imperial rule was for your customs and cultures, and sympathise with the Nords wanting to maintain their culture.
-
Because I LOVE TALOS!
-
Xenophobic racists who want to keep their land pure of any foreign influence.
-
Because we are the true sons of Skyrim. Duh.
-
A unified Empire can stop the Thalmor
-
I joined the empire as a high elf and slaughtered any Thalmor I ran into. Oh the irony!
-
I joined the stormcloaks the first time and i had a lot of fun. the second playthrough i joined the imperials and i was bored
-
The entire civil war thing was completely uncompelling and a waste of focus for the game. I found it easier to slaughter both sides for gold and exp than to bring myself to complete a storyline for either faction.

Edited by EMPeace: 3/3/2013 1:09:32 AMThe civil war in Skyrim is one big grey-area, only an idiot sees either side as "good" or "evil". Me? As a Dunmer, I just see it as the nords tearing each other apart, I have no reason to intervene, I'd rather go back home and contribute to rebuilding Morrowind's society, the 4th Era has not been kind to us...

Lore wise, Ulfric Stormcloack is just a puppet of the Thalmor which is the real enemy. I mean, the Imperials are puppets of the Thalmor also. How about neither.
-
Anybody: a desire for self-determination.
-
I agree. An empire too weak to defend its citizens isn't fit to rule.
-
There aren't any good reasons to join them lore wise.
