I like signing in to notifications

I don't know about you lot, but I feel I have failed in some way if i've posted several replies across multiple threads, signed in 5-12 hours later and have no notifications. So i propose that perhaps if this happens the system could send you a token notification that says "Well, at least you tried". Or perhaps I'm just an attention whore since the update, though i suspect it's probably that since we have the abilities to reduce our own personal audience and exposure and generally circle jerk with a smaller audience than before bungie.next, it hurts that little bit more when someone doesn't reply to your brilliant analysis of a troll post or a news article that someone has brought to the general attention of the community. All i'm saying is that, if you see a well thought out and interesting reply to a thread that hasn't received the attention you think it should've - reply to it; I suspect that you'll make the author that little bit happier.

  • What I really like about notifications is that it no longer requires a topic to be on "page one" to be relevant. I could reply to a member days later (when I come across their comment or reply and feel an urge to respond), I post something, they get a notification and the conversation is dependent on people talking, not people bumping or making noise. I could follow someone I never knew about, page through a bit of their history and find something to talk about, even if it was days/weeks old. No accusations of necro-posting, no worries that "well this got stale fast", the content of the conversation is what keeps each conversation going. Plus, it is nice to see that people have responded to you too.

    • Wow, talk about necobumping. You know what though, this was the first time i've signed in for a while and I did like seeing the notification.

    • eh I'm indifferent about it. Most times it's someone who liked a post of mine or replied back in a nice way even if they disagree. Then I seem to get these crazy nuts attached to my posts that just won't give it up. They seem to want to try and change me in whatever I do or had an opinion on. The notification feels like a hook sometimes since they know you saw the notification it almost becomes an obligation to reply back. Sometimes I just don't care to reply back and get tired of the nonsense. They probably event felt like "yay I won the debate because they stopped responding" when in reality I just got tired of going in circles because the little red notification icon keeps popping up telling me "hey reply back". lol

    • It's nice, but it can get irritating. I've logged over 40 notifications today on Facebook. That gets irritating.

      • I know I'm going to cop some flack for this, but I enjoy going back to the old forums and re-reading some of the discussions we had about a possible notification system, particularly the comments about how it would be "pointless" and "unnecessary".

        • I love getting notifications. It makes it so much easier to keep track of who is talking to me, and i don't have to save a billion threads and figure out if someone else added anything.

        • It's like a comforting warm hug. You said something that makes another person want to reply to you, which is like a well deserved pat on the back.

I've been thinking about that sort of thing lately too. It's kind of ironic and would be funnier if I liked this twitter-esque layout. At least these notifications can be disabled!

          • You're welcome for the notification :) I know I felt really good when people started posting on my threads. I've had a few lengthy conversations with some people, and having my phone bleep at me all day or waking up to 10 notifications makes me feel like I'm important around here. (Actually my favorite notification to get is when someone follows me. Makes me feel special.)

              • I like notifications too, but not as much when they destroy the possibility for further discussion.

                • Since the day Bungie.next launched, I have not gone a single day without waking up to a notification. Today was the least I'd ever had- two. One time I had 89! The other day I had 20's. And I concur. I try to reply to threads or posts I found interesting for a similar reason. :P

                    • I find it oddly satisfying, when it's been hours since I've posted something and then I hear the little chirping from my phone.
