As I sat upon my desk chair in wooly brown slippers - a tediously prepared bowl of parmesan noodles lay snug in my grasp; I turned on the TV to a most disturbing sight.

I understand this is nothing new, but the fact remains. When one turns on the 5 o'clock news, you would expect to see hard hitting journalism; escapades of heroism and by contrast great sadness in the Middle East. News programs today remain half celebrity news, small town social activism (which really isn't all that bad), and commercials.
Pardon my French, but victims of child slave labour being shot in the street is a tad more important that whatever -blam!-ing Ann Hathaway wore at the goddamn Oscars. Show it on your 'Entertainment Tonight' shows as opposed to the World News.
It's sad that the average North American citizen cannot be bothered to focus their attention on the news unless it's headlined by an actor or musician. And shame on the news companies for bending to their will for the sake of ratings. I understand they have to generate viewers to stay afloat, but for god's sake have some integrity.
