Horsemeat

So has anyone heard of Ikea's meatballs, how they have horse meat in them, instead of regular meat? I have, and the media is flipping shit about it. I don't know anything about meat, but what is so bad about horse meat? Is it the fact that we don't usually eat horses, and therefore it's disgusting? Or it there an actual legitimate reason for people being reluctant to eat horse meat?

  • We are culturally opposed to horsemeat because historically it has been more profitable to use the horses rather than eat them. There is nothing inherently wrong with it - many European countries eat horse (I have personally eaten horse whilst in Germany). There is the concern that horses are quite expensive, if someone is using horse meat it is probably dodgy stuff that isn't fit for human consumption.
