Seems like the government is trying to push equality by taking out a law that basically discriminates against gays and lesbians. If DOMA is indeed struck down, that'll be one step closer to social equality.
Edit: DOMA stands for: Defense of Marriage Act, which basically says, "Only a man and a woman can get married."

One major problem I have with this is that the President thinks he can pick and choose which laws to enforce, and this is not so. The President must enforce all laws, whether he agrees or disagrees with them.
