The Danger of Splitting the Community

Summary: Bungie is releasing their game on the Xbox360, PS3, and PS4. If there is exclusive content on one of these platforms then it could split up the community. If the community is split up then it will not last as long or be smaller. Bungie has decided to make their game (for one year after release) exclusive to consoles. To our surprise they have also decided to release the game on the PS4, which while we can't pre-order now is going to be available at launch. There is also a mobile app currently only available on iOS and Android. If any of these platforms provide exclusive content (with the exception of the mobile app) it can and will split the community into camps not only for and against but also haves and have nots. [Note: I typed this up the hour I noticed the update about the PS4 but didn't get around to posting it until now. I'm honestly surprised that the PS4 is getting exclusive content, but perhaps it won't have too much of an impact.] Clarification: When I made this post I didn't know about the exclusive content, that was quite honestly a coincidence.

 • No it isn't. Just stop with that, you wouldn't be saying the same if Exclusive Content was for Xbox. Also there will obviously be "content" for devices with unique tech. For example, WiiU games get additional content for that great tech from WiiU. PS4 has the Touch Pad, as well as connectivity with PSVita which has it as well. There will be use for that which may not be on the Xbox if it doesn't have one. It doesn't matter if it is or isn't. You will get your game as well as everyone else. They have every right to get Exclusivity to anything they want to. Nonetheless they are releasing it on all consoles out, so stop whining about some content that you won't get on the Xbox. It isn't splitting up the community any more than just having two consoles exist. More people may choose Sony's PS4 through it, if so that's perfectly fine. They are expanding, not limiting. You want it on Xbox to play with your Xbox friends, you can have it. You want it on PS3 or PS4, play it on that. Needless to say, newer tech will be better and from the looks of it the PS4 has good Support for Developers, so yeah no surprise that they have some extra stuff, because it can. From a developer's perspective it is better to back Sony's new system, not only for the technology and ease of use, but for the ease of access as well. Microsoft is very tight-nit about everything while Sony has been more open and easier on Developers. I'm getting it on both Next Gen consoles and who knows maybe even WiiU if it has some good features on it.
