Like the title says, when I was younger getting near the end of the game felt like I was really far.
For example, in Jak and Daxter, when I got to the red sage hut when I was a kid, God Damn did I feel like I was really far away from the start of the game and have travelled a long journey.
Now when playing it, I still have fun, but I find the game is lacking it's adventurous feel to it what made me love it as a kid, even though I could never complete it.

Too be honest, I agree with you. Don't get me wrong, games that I played in the last 2-3 years like Mass Effect 2 was big for me, but games like the Metroid Prime series felt very adventurous. It had lots of atmosphere, intense battles, great boss fights, lots of exploration, and more.

Because when you're young your imagination is sky-high and everything is just. So. AWESOME. I feel exactly the same.

Because you grow up, understand the world, and know how things work. Reality is harsh and can kill the joy you have as a kid. "Ignorance is bliss." isn't meant to be a joke. That's why.

I have a different experience. I look back and regularly play (like once a year, maybe) the games that most influenced me growing up. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Halo CE, Kotor (The sequel, mostly) and others. I find that now as I've aged, and my critical thinking skills have begun to develop, that I can actually immerse myself, with some effort, and really appreciate the balance and decision-making behind the art direction, the UI, the items, the dialouge, etc. I think games that I played when I was young were really beautiful. Jax and Daxter I do not own, but spent a lot of time playing. It's definitely not going to be as challenging to me now, but I think that both playing it for a challenge, and for a trip down memory lane are both fun. I just beat Wind Waker again, and man, that was a great ending.

I kno that feel bro

I blame multiplayer. Now campaigns don't have to captivate gamers as much.

It's definitely just growing up... If you believe it is relevant to the chemical receptors in the brain that signal pleasure, notably cannabinoids, you can consume natural herbs which contain cannabinoids from your local... grocer?

This is so damn true, the feeling when you explore a whole new world was amazing and you can't describe that feeling. Just like Pokémon, when your biggest decision was to choose from three different Pokémon. I am not the gamer I once was and that is sad. I miss my Spyro the dragon and Crash Bandicoot on my Playstation 1. Now it is just sequels everywhere and that is not catching my attention at all.

Probably because you know the limitations it has. I guess as a kid nobody really understands that there's limits in games, its more of a "What if I could go there" mindset than a "I guess I can't go there", at least for me. There's some games that gave me that feel though, namely Half Life and STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.

When I was very small, I was a beast at Super Mario Bros. Today, I am abysmal. Times change.

Maybe your tastes have changed as you've grown up? Pokemon felt such a long ass game now I can beat the story in 2-3 days. Victory Road in Sapphire is like 10 minutes long seriously.
